didnt bring up many results, but can a CA go into an S14 with realitive ease. Will the engine bay be to big, will i need new motor mounts, would it just be smarter to turbo the KA? need a little advice

The Ca will fit in your s14 without any issue, but it is all about preference when it comes to whether a ca or a ka engine turbo. finance usually what dictates which route you take.

everything is the same except for wiring, which isn't difficult with write-ups and wiring diagrams. and im not sure if id say price dictates decisions, people (atleast me) feel strongly about the motor they like because of the actual attributes of the motor, not the price. if CA mounts come with the motor id use them. any other questions feel free to ask aim: jt1583

as for turbo ka, if its low enough miles and you think you can do it then maybe that as well

Well, if he has an S14, chances are his engine have decent low milage, and when I said preference, I was referring to the KA vs. the CA and nothing to do with the SR. If the KA has a low milage, I would go that route than rather pulling the engine out. But I always prefer the Ca engine over most engines out there.

I'm not too sure the KA-T is even cheaper than the CA, do you really think it is? i understand the SR but the CA you can usually get for around 1,000 give or take a couple hundred.

you can get a ca for that much, but when thinking about new clutch, water pump , oil pump, timing belt and other things you will want to/have to replace, the turbo option may be cheaper.

Almost everyone that I know w/ KA-T that did it on the cheap and on a stock KA munched the rods or the block. A CA motorset can be installed for under $1500 RUNNING. Can't beat that!

On a side note, my buddy w/ a KA-T w/ a T3 Super 60 @ 7psi ran dead on even with my other buddy who has an SR, full bolt ons, and a T25G at 15psi. Food for thought.

Oh im not denying the ability of the KA-T. im totally for respecting the KA-T, and if i had motivation I probobly would do it, but i'm qeustioning the financial comparison between it and the CA.

My personal opinion is, if you want to turbo a ka, it will cost you more $$ than buying a ca18det.

IF you can keep you KA-T project in one peice, it can be a great motor. I've seen/heard of a lot of shelled KA-T motors though. I think the problem with a budget KA-T is that you are at the limits of the motor internally, whereas w/a stock CA, you're nowhere near the limits internally, and can make the same power with a minor SR T25 turbo upgrade.

Ofcourse the flip side to that is IF you get a good condition CA motorset. In my particular case I DIDN'T. Bad rings, with possible damage to the #3 cylnder (I'm not sure if it was from the one overboost (hit boost cut on stock turbo) or if it was just like that when I bought it. )If you've got to overhaul the CA, it's still prob cheaper as a gasket set, rings, bearings, water & oil pumps, and timing belt, is still less than the required forged pistons and rods needed for a reliable, high HP KA-T.
