I finished everything and started my motor Moday. Problem is it ran for a while and it sounded like the timing belt was too tight. So I loosened it. I bliped the throttle while standing in front of the car an the timing belt jumped. It died shortly after and would not restart. How far off can timing be before stuff hits? I'm tearing it down again to fix a leak and set the timing back up, but I've accepted the fact that I probley bent the valves. So if it doesn't start back up I'm thinking all new valve and port and polish. Any ideas on where to get the valves?

I'm curious why you think the timing belt was too tight. It has automatic tension, so there's no way it could be too tight unless you installed it wrong.

i'm pretty sure this is a "clearance" motor.. or whatever you call it. meaning that the valves all they way down, with the pistons all the way up, won't hit....

your thinking NON-interference.

the RB's ARE interference. wich means you will bend valves if the timing belt breaks.

ALL rb's?! I thought just the 20 would hit, not the 25 or 26

You may have bent the valves, or you may not have. You never know until you put the timing belt back on right (at the alignment points), and start her up. Or you can do a leakdown test on it as well.....

If you did bend the valves, don't panic too much. Now, this will "make" you get a thicker headgasket, ARP studs, machine/work the head, cams, sprockets, etc etc etc...

I read the above two links before, that's actually where I got the above info ^^. But, i didn't read anything in there about the 25's or 26's interfering.

Well, its seized kind of. I can rotate it about 3/4 of the way before I can feel something hit. I've got the oil pan off and you can hear air rushing out for around the 5th and 6th piston. It stops rotating right as the 5th piston comes to the top of its stroke too.Oh well, maybe pistons and valves for X-mas.

Looks like X-mas is coming early this year. I pulled the head today and the pistons look awesome. The machine shop says $300 for a valve job plus whatever for any valves or guide work and the wife gave me the thumbs up. The machinist actually knew what kind of engine I was talking about too. Said he just got done with a RB26.
