i need 2 replace my valve cover gaskets so i did.. i left the car at my friends house and he decided to help on it while i left 2 work he cleaned out my TB and he installed the gaskets and he installed a new 02 sensor that i had... the problem is my car is idling super high n running like crap..it use 2 idle at 800-900 now its idlin at 1800-1950. what do u guys think could have done that? im gonna switch the o2 sensor out 2morr back 2 the old one and hopefully it will be back down.. u guys have any idea what it could b if its not the o2 sensor? thanks for your help

JUST RE-IDLE/TIME THE ENGINE..... THE OLD SENSOR MAY HAVE BEEN FAULTY AND THE NEW CLEARED THAT UP SO YOU NEED TO RESET TIMING AND IDLE.

He cleaned out the TB? Could he have left a vacuum line open? That would make it idle high. I seriously doubt an O2 sensor could throw the idle off by that much, if at all.

Definitely sounds like a vacuum leak, as Wulfgang suggested.

yes its a vacuum leak, the o2 sensor dosent affect idle when its running open loop.

If air is leaking out of the TB to intake manifold gasket then yes that could be it. Do you have a boost/vacuum gauge? If so it should be reading somewhere between 19-20 in mg of vacuum at idle if you have no leaks. If you don't have a boost gauge, it's a fairly cheap and worthwhile investment for detecting vacuum leaks and making sure you're not overboosting ;)

i found it..its the TB sensor..it just had 2 be turned a little...tripped me out man.. i took everything off and put a new gasket.. and it still had the problem..then i noticed u can move the tb sensor so i did and it worked! the werid thing is that after switching the o2 sensor it idles about 100-200 higher and runs slower.... so im gonna switch it back 2day when i getta chance ...and hopefully it will b back up 2 speed again..

The TPS? Sounds like you need to adjust it. break out the volt meter or use the SAFC2 so you can monitor it when you adjust it.

any 1 kno what the tps voltage should be?? my rev/spd meter only shows battery voltage. after redoing everything my car feels like its running a lil slower.. it idles at 1000 now instead of 800-900.. any clue what it could be?
