He drove a black 95-98 civic hatch with the SiR sticker on the rear. It was lowered, stock tires and rims with no hubcaps, stock muffler and tip, some weirdo wing above his rear window, and a big ol tach hanging by his window.

Anyways, I was the passenger in my friend's 90 240 and we both came to a red light. It was obvious the civic guy didn't want to run since he just sat there for a second after the light turned green, so we just went at about 40mph until I started hearing the high pitch whine of that little 1.8L engine come up from behind. I turn to look and something caught my attention. His engine bay was making some weird wannabe turbo whine and blow off valve sounds, but it definitely wasn't a turbo OR a supercharger. I told my friend to pull up a little so I can take a look at this bumper and didn't see any intercooler or ic pipings.

The funny thing was that when his "turbo" was whining, his car still crawled up slowly to us.

Don't they sell a gadget that imitates the turbo whine and blow off valve? I remember seeing that being sold for around $300 online!

needless to say, we were laughing our *** off the whole night.

Yeah they do.... but ya know, it's possible to have a turbo and a SMIC. But, if he caught up slowly and had stock exhaust, my guess is on the fake turbo sounds :)

Not to be *** or anything but if that guy with the hatch had a 1.8 in there, he would have cremated you. I think its 1.5.

Civics in that year range came with 1.6 sohc engines; the accessorized models had VTACH !

My mom's civic dx feels pretty quick going through twisties at a parkig lot...but once you go on the streets it chokes :\
