I saw my first sedan!

We were in the town where we bought our Versa and I made hubby drive by and see if the dealership had a sedan.

Finally, we saw the one that they had lined up with the Sentras.

It was a black sedan, had ABS breaks, the intelligent key/bluetooth, AND a sunroof.

It was stickered $18,125.

The interior was identical to mine. It seemed, however, the front nose is shorter than the hatch. It was sitting amongst the Sentras, and it was after dark, so it was hard to say.

Now, here, black is a hard sell, because we have a lot of wind and dirt.

Obviously, the trunk is small.

Here is my thought - You know they aren't coming down on that price. If I were going to spend that much money on a car that wasn't delivering on the promised MPG, I'd have bought a Civic. In fact, I wouldn't have even test drove the Versa sedan to know what a great ride the Versa offers.

Now that gas is going back up, maybe they think they can get it.

Side note: They also had the CVT SL identical to my magnetic gray hatch for $16, 325; a red CVT hatch with intelligent key/bluetooth, for $17,700; and a white CVT hatchback with intelligent key/bluetooth for $17,135.

I think the sedan will eventually be unsuccessful. There's nothing that makes it stand out in the crowded compact sedan market. It's very boring on the exterior and an interior that's almost equal to all. I'd hate to admit it, but the Kia's and Hyundai's may be more popular than this sedan simply because they are offering everything standard. For most, they'll have a choice between cars that are the same price, quality, looks, and performance. In this situation, most will choose the one with the most features standard.

At $18k... wow... you can get into a new Civic EX for another $1500.... and quite frankly it's in a whole different leage in terms of refinement. I test drove it 3 times, and was close ot buying one, but the dealer couldn't make a deal I could live with.

Nissan has a winner with the Versa Hatch. It's cheaper than the Civic, far better made than the Vibe, more comfortable than the Matrix or Sentra, and gets better MPG those mini-SUVs which IMHO, the hatch feels like.

It's also cheaper than the Matrix and Fit. It goes without saying that it is FAR above the Yaris, and Focus can't compete with any of them.

So like you say, if Nissan wants to sell more cars than Hyundai and Kia, it's NOT going to do that with the V sedan.

I own both a Vibe and a Versa. I would strongly dispute the statement that the Versa is far better made than the Vibe. The Vibe is a very well made car. Mine is an 05 and I have had no problems at all. The fit and finish are very good. I like my Versa and actually prefer it over the Vibe but saying the Versa is better built that the Vibe is not accurate. We'll see when the Versa is 2 yrs old if it has held up as well as the Vibe.

Thanks for the info. We only test drove a 2006. I'd researched message boards, and so many were clamoring about paint problems.

I know they have a Toyota engine, but for us, the ride wasn't even close. I liked the room for hauling, though.

We supposedly had a "deal" in the works for the 2006, that would it have brought one with a sunroof to close to the same price we paid for the Versa. But we were spending more on a 2006 for a sunroof than we were a 2007 Versa without one. And the Versa had the better ride.

I haven't even seen a white Versa in Canada yet. It was on my list 6 months ago cause it came with beige interior choice.

I've seen one Versa sedan parked on my street. Saturday I was at the dealer for an oil change They only had the hatch in the showroom and front lot. I sat in the back of the new Sentra with driver's seat all the way back, then same thing with the Versa. The Versa has more legroom in the rear.

Actually, the trunk is bigger on the sedan than on the hatchback. The sedan is longer than the hatch.

Overall the sedan is about 3 inches longer, but it has less cargo space.

Hatch - 17.8 cu. ft.Sedan - 13.8 cu. ft.

If I wanted a Nissan sedan I would have bought another Sentra or an Altima. There is no need for a Versa sedan in my opinion, the hatch will suffice on its own.

I saw one today at the dealer when I picked up a clutch for my Xterra. Looked very wierd to see an ultra small sedan. Sort of like the geo metro sedan.

Didn't check out the sticker since I was in a hurry to get the parts.

"Batanga" magazine came yesterday with a Sentra SL ad in it. The only features they touted were the stereo's auxiliary input and the fact that the 6-CD changer would read MP3's. Sounds familiar... The MSRP "as shown" was $19,900. That right there would keep me from looking at the Sentra!

Are you saying you think that's too high or too low?

Hopefully they meant too high. I know I wouldn't pay 19k for a Geo Sedan as XterraVersa describes it.

Yes, too high. If I were looking for a car like the Versa sedan, the Sentra would not interest me at $2000+ higher for less room inside and worse mileage just to get a bigger trunk. That said, the second and third Versas I buy will still definitely be hatches!

The Versa Sedan is only $700 more than the Versa H/B in Canada. The Sentra is only $2300 more than the Versa H/B.

in Canada...Versa H/B starts at 14,498Versa Sedan starts at 15,198Sentra starts at 16,798

so those prices that kc5f stated are whack.

I think you probably missed the part that said "as shown". The ad wasn't saying the Sentra started at $19,900 US, but that the Sentra SL shown in the ad, inluding the options shown, was $19,900.

And, as I said just before your comment, I was considering the difference between the Sentra and Versa to be "$2000+", which is perfectly in line with your figures.

Thanks, by the way, for the starting prices, too.

Well, let me put it this way, if I had the proper amount of funding, I'd buy a Rex, not a Sentra. That is if I were to want a sedan instead of a hatch, but I wanted a hatch, and my funds could not buy me a GTI, so instead of getting a Rabbit, I got the Versa.
