Yup. Costs me about 7 cents a round to load up.

I have about 250 rounds of factory ammo and about 500 pieces of brass/primers/bullets in my reloading reserve.

So all set on 380.

Thoughts on muzzle brakes/compensators to minimize recoil?

I personally didn't have an issue with the 4" .357. Gave a nice fireball too

Muzzle breaks tend to direct the muzzle flash up and back. Not good for nighttime self-defense.

The difference between a 2" and a 4" .357 is quite impressive.

I'm trying to make something right now to correct the backflash caused by a muzzle brake.

Sorry, I was wrong though, I only have 200 rounds of loaded 380, not 250. I also only have 400 bullets, not the 500 like I thought.

Oh well.

Guess I could shoot 44 magnum or something instead.

I had one that I paid 350 for from a dealer with the box/packing materials/shipper. The shipper is the cardboard that goes on the outside of the regular box.

So anywhere from 300-400 depending on condition.

Mine was nearly unfired.

Back agian. Still waiting on my CCW, and I'm going to buy a gun when it gets here. I think I've narrowed it down to 2, so help me out a bit here.

I will be mainly pocket carrying in a front pocket with a pocket holster that covers the trigger.

1st: Ruger LCP. Small, lightweight, better quality than a P3AT, and cheap. DAO trigger, which means no safeties, just a long hard trigger pull.

2nd: Sig Sauer P238. A fraction bigger than LCP, a bit heavier, bit more expensive, copy of the proven Colt Mustang. SA, which means in my case will have to be carried in condition one (Cocked and locked).

Heres the big thing for me. I don't have a lot of experience with a 1911 style gun (although I want a SA GI45), and I don't know how comfortable I will be with having the hammer back on a gun that will be in my pocket while I'm moving around.

Which would you rather carry? A gun with no safety and a long trigger pull, or a gun with safety, cocked, and a crisp smooth trigger?

I'm used to my P89's manual safety so drawing while disengaging the safety will not be a problem, and I plan to train with the gun I purchase enough to be comfortable with it.

Does the SIG have a grip safety?

I don't believe in fumbling around with safeties for CCW.

No grip safety on the Sig. Only a thumb safety.

I went and talked to a local Sig dealer today, and he told me it will probably be Christmas until he has any 238's, so I'll probably get the LCP as soon as my permit gets here.

Bah, your finger is the real safety...

I like the little ruger. It's cute....

What's the one that's like 9oz empty? IIRC it was chambered in a 380

The Taurus Judge isn't too large. I was handling one the other day. That would definately put a hurtin' on someone. http://www.chuckhawks.com/taurus_judge.htm

a cocked single action isn't something I want in my pocket without a safety on.

the P238 is essentially a sigged up Colt Pony.

nice little pistols.

I would however consider getting a bigger pistol for a primary carry piece.

9mm or better.

.380 is a b**** to find right now even more so than most.

I personally would prefer it chambered in 44 magnum instead of 50AE

I agree about the plated ones.

I personally prefer stainless. That's it.

I've been wondering, what other semi-autos are chambered in 44 magnum?

dunno.

if you want a .44 Mag...best way to go is Ruger or an N frame Smith and Wesson.

the Dessert Eagle is just eye candy.

I much prefer a big wheel gun for shock and awe anyway.

I have no use for the Judge either...it's more shock and awe.

don't want a .410 for self defense and why carry something that big for .45LC when i can get a decent size .45 ACP that's way easier to conceal.

Mr1der and Charleo, range report on the PM40 and PT111 please. Any failures? How many rounds have you put through them?

I've went from wanting a pocket .380 to a sub-compact 9mm.

I'm currently between a Sig P239, PT111 Pro, Kahr PM9, the new Taurus PT709 "Slim" that hasn't got here yet, and the black sheep of the family, a Kimber Ultra CDP II (DAMN thats an expensive gun, but I found a good shop with a 0% layaway plan.)

I like my little PM9.

now, the question is, do you wanna drop twice as much on it when you can get a PF-9?

the Kahr has the Kel-Tec trumped on everything but price to be fair....it's really not a bad looking little gun either while the Kel is just freakin' ugly.

go to a store and start looking things over. I haven't had any issues out of my PM9 yet, haven't really shot any HP's though, all I had laying around in 9mm was about a mag full. it's got around 250 rounds through it.

I've been to at least 10 gun shops/pawn shops in 2 weeks. I've entertained the idea of almost every single stack compact and sub compact available, and held every one of them barring the HK P7 (can't find one anywhere). My wife thinks I'm crazy.

I have two friends with PF9's, and both of them have told me not to buy. These guys like guns, so I'm gonna take their advice.

I'm pretty much down to the PM9, P9, Kimber CDP II and waiting on the Taurus "Slim". I've decided while I love the Sig and the PT111, they're a bit larger (mostly thickness) than what I want in a CCW.

there's also the CW pistols from Kahr...I've heard a lot of mixed reviews there however.

check out a Walther PPS yet?

The PPS was on my list, but I didn't like the magazine release being integral to the trigger guard. The trigger pull left a bit to be desired compared to the Kahr's and Sig's as well.

As many problems as the PM9 seemed to have early on in production, I am a bit scared of a cheaper price-point Kahr. I have heard mixed reviews on the CW series also.

I just purchased a Hi Point 9mm.

Haven't picked it up yet. I'm trying to decide between the 9mm and 40 S&W as the FFL allows you to change caliber prior to them releasing the weapon.

They are all the same price. $150. Came out to like $165 OTD.

Thoughts on the 9mm vs 40 S&W.

Unfortunately due to the design the 9mm is already 29oz. The 40 is 39oz.

What's nice is the design will reliably handle +p+ loads if you wanted that extra something.

I'm on the fence though. The 40 with some loads approches .357 magnum territory. ~500ft/lbs.

Thoughts?

*edit* Or should I save up and get something nicer in the 40?

get something nicer. You honestly won't hear too many problems from the high points other than they're not very accurate and an absolute pain in the a** to take apart and put back together.

if you want a good gun cheap, go look CZ-82 in 9x18mm Makarov.

you can find one for about 250 or so and will outshoot a lot of guns a few hundred more.

another good gun under 500 is an EAA Witness. The compacts seem to be problematic but few complaints are heard from the fullsize owners and for around 500, you can get an Elite Match that'll shoot like a 1k dollar gun.

I'll definately save up for a nicer brand then. I was handling the Taurus 40 and 45 and they weighed less then the Hi point 9mm... LOL!

*edit* One of the nice things about Hi Point is that the only required maintenence is to remove the slide, which still requires a punch, and lube the parts. You arn't required to tear it down any more then that to still qualify for warranty

40 is a fine caliber.

it tends to be found in smaller frame pistols compared to the 9mm.

don't be afraid to check out used guns like Glocks and XD's or a nice used Smith and Wesson Model 19. You should be able to find any of those under 500 or in the case of the Glock or XD, new for that or a little more.

what's the most you're willing to spend on a pistol?
