get a Pistol.

you can change all kinds of crap out on it and not have to worry about it being considered a short barreled rifle.

they're fine guns...I still want one, but it's down on the list.

Finally picked up a new gun for CCW duties.

Taurus PT709 "Slim" 9mm. 7+1 capacity, came in a cheap plastic case with 2 magazines, a bore brush, two keys for the "Taurus internal locking system" and an allen wrench to adjust the sights (windage and elevation). I opted for a stainless slide because of the humidity in the south and the fact that the gun will get sweated on a lot.

Weight: 19 oz. (not sure if that's loaded or empty, but it's light either way)It's just a hair longer than the Kel-Tec PF-9, about the same thickness, and a little taller which allows me to get a better grip.

Out of the box I was having problems with failures to eject, as frequently as every other round. I removed the extractor and magnified it, and it had a burr on it so I filed that down a bit. Seems to be working great now.

Shoots good, points very well, doesn't kick at all, and feels great ergonomically. It is VERY similar to a Glock, from the takedown method to the internals. I actually used a Glock takedown procedure to figure out how to detail strip this gun. The gun is a SA/DA with an external safety, meaning that the trigger pull is light and crisp. The DA part only comes into effect if you have a light primer strike, you can pull the trigger agian and the striker will contact the primer a second time.

Currently carrying it IWB with a Tagua gunleather holster until some better companies start producing, and I'm waiting on some nite-sites to go into production and maybe an extended magazine, or a magazine floorplate extension.

I'm low on ammo so I haven't shot it but about 50 times, but I'll try and get a range report if I can find any ammo on the cheap.

Not bad. Looks pretty.

For paper punching make sure to check out walmart for Federal JHP 115g. $9 a box of 50.

uh...

you won't find a Federal HP that cheap.

maybe some Remington and UMC FMJ...but not even a Winchester hollowpoint for that.

assuming they have anything on the shelf.

Well i don't know if it has been suggested in any of the previous posts.. But i am really happy with my Glock 19.

For a number of reasons..

It's easy to point and shoot multiple rounds quickly and accurately. It's extremely reliable.I clean mine after every use. It's quick and easy to disassemble for cleaning..

It is very light and virtually indestructible.. I have the viridiam XL5 laser on mine, and i use general, 115-grain 9mm Full Metal Jacket (FMJ) for the shooting range..For defensive purposes i use known brands Jacketed Hollow Points (JHP), like the Federal Hydra-Shok etc etc..

Just my 2 cents..

GTFO.

10 rounds of 10mm over 10 rounds of 9mm any day.

and probably wacky recoil on it too.

I'm tempted to get one of the little cannons...I'm still not too big on Glocks...we'll see how I like holding one of the little ones.

otherwise, it's an XD40SC Bitone for me!

With an extended grip magazine you can get 12 rounds. Plus you have more surface area for your fingers and it doesn't really add much to the bulk of the gun.

anyway, my Kahr's gonna be gone soon.

it's gonna have a Glock 29 or an XD subcompact replace it.

pics when I make the trade happen.

ehhh...they're neat, but I can't justify it.

I am however now wanting an AR or SIG 556 pistol.

it's legal to keep one ready to rock if you have a CHP in Tennessee.

I finally realized their use....

tell me how you like it...what's it run, like 1600 bucks?

for that much, I'd probably just opt for an AR pistol and build it myself...

we'll see. I still need to get a permit...

I really never ever got the appeal of the 5.7x28. Just seems soooo pointless.

trying to get good rifle power out of a subgun and pistol.

we've been attempting this for years...

it's a good shooting little round though...I'd like a FiveseveN to play with at some point...

It is cable of penetrating dozens of layers of kevlar.

The bullet is long and skinny. It is designed to stay straight while penetrating, but then tumble once it enters the body. This creates a much larger wound channel then the caliber would suggest.

James: I've been reading up on the FN57. Google "FN57 Out of Battery". Apparently the firing pin can be released up to 1/4" prior to the slide being closed. Not pretty

I don't remember. I hope to pick it and the LWRC up in a day or two. The thing with pistoled ARs is you have the buffer tube sticking out of the back and it looks dumb and is in the way.

this

Maybe the 5.7 AP round which isn't legal to sell/import is capable of penetrating kevlar but that isn't normally available to the public.

I'm sorry, I still fail to see what significant advantages that the 5.7 have over the 223 or even 9mm/40s&w/45acp. I'm talking strictly the civilian version of the 5.7 guns/ammo, not the military full auto and ap style rounds.

I have tons of guns and have everything from a 22 up to a 50cal but the civilian 5.7 just seems so overpriced for what you get. The pistols are rather cool looking though. I hate the way the ps90 looks. Just looks so silly looking.

From what I have been reading, the ballistics of the 5.7 are pretty much the same as a 22 magnum.

The 5.7 is half the size of the 223. Penetrates more at 300 yards. And offers close to half the recoil of a 9mm.

I agree that the civilian version is way too overpriced for what it is.

As for the purchasing of the AP rounds. They are not allowed to be sold in a complete round.

You can reload yourself. IIRC Ramshot BlueDot is the powder required.

The main issue is case and neck stretching. You'll only get about 3~5 reloads per case.

Also, the Dies cost $55. More then almost any other dies.

It's an expensive little round, but did achieve some amazing things for its size.
