i have a 90 240sx with 100k (pretty low mileage) when i start it up there is lots of ticking and the oil pressure light stays on for a few seconds then it builds pressure and runs fine. if i start it up right away after ive been driving it there is no problem but if it sits for a few hours it does the whole low oil pressure thing again. Im thinking that the oil pump is loosing its prime anyone have any ideas what might be going on?

You may be right but her eare a few things to think about first.

How old is your oil? If the oil is breaking down you can see the same type of thing.

How old is your oil filter? A well used (read: cloged) oil filter can cause this also.

I would change the oil pump if you have any doubt as a failue is very bad (read: expensive)

Changeing an Oil pump is not hard.

i did a recent oil change thinking maybe the oil filter was at fault it helped but did not fix the problem.
