90-93 was unquestionably the "purer" car, no wood. No extras, a performance car, all function, Infiniti wanted to out BMW the competition, they targeted the 5 series. I remember Car and Driver writing in a comparison test in 1990 saying something along the lines of "the Q45 has the smoothest feeling interior of any car we have ever been in, we drove the car at night and with only the orange glow from the instrument panel, everywhere we moved our hands from the leather shifter to the controls above the leather armrest to the dashboard surfaces it felt as if all the parts of the interior were designed to feel identical in the dark. This is an amazing ergonomic experience." I have remembered that comment since 1990 when I read the article, and every time I drive at night I move my hands around in the interior and think about it, I know it sounds stupid but try it at night...all the materials, whether plastic or leather were designed to FEEL the same. If you think back to the dumb ads that killed the sales of this generation with the rocks and the trees and think about what they were really trying to do was build a perfect car esthetically and even from a touch the materials basis in the interior they hit a home run, unfortunately they did not market it correctly and had their buttwocks handed to them by Lexus.
