Welcome to Nico!!

Price was 3400.
Add cost of decent replacement motor say 5k, plus installation say another 1-1.5k (depending).
So for under 10k you should have a pretty nice +fast vehicle.
This is significantly lower than you will find them on a dealers lot for.
So in theory this might work out quite well for you.
(this is however assuming nothing else is wrong with it, thats the tricky part about buying mechanics specials when not being a mechanic.. w/o testdrive there is no telling on the general condition of the vehicle.)

Sometimes (rarely) folks find out a "busted" engine really needed only a small and minor fix the seller was unaware of..... but that is too rare to hope for IMHO, especially with an "older guy" (which means experienced) selling it.

Cheers :)

PS: I am unaware of any "Nismo" edition for these cars, neither was here a M class, "IPL" that I can recall. (I was an Infiniti car salesman for a short time, the year this car was new)
So he was just hyperboling that its an "S" (for sport) model.
PS2: This is exactly the kind of adventure I myself might jump in,as I have a high tolerance for risk (especially when I was younger)
PS3: Where are you located in the US? if you are near Atlanta T3 Marietta would be a good shop to visit with alot of expertise for an engine Infiniti install w/o charging dealers rates... near Baltimore, Hills Garage is also a reasonably priced but highly competent Nissan/Infiniti specialist.

Do you know if you can interchange heads and blocks on the 5.6 vk
Like using a 2017 titan block and vk heads or should I not
Be cheap and buy the entire vk.
Is there any more powerful engine that will pair with the transmission and computer without heavy mods

There is no such thing as an IPL or NISMO M56 or Q70. IPL was only something for the G series, if I recall, and NISMO has NEVER worked on Infiniti to my knowledge otherwise it would be called IISMO. That's a Nissan only product line.

I like INSMO for Infiniti, NISMO for Nissan.

All in all that listing was a bunch of BS (intentional or not), and a decal bombed M, which I don't judge either. It does look like a true sport model though, so it's got that going for it.

The good:
$3,400 is a very good price for the features the vehicle has. I couldn't see all the pictures clearly, but still looks good from here. Even if you don't repair it, you could eventually make back your money parting it out.
The neutral:
It seems like a majority of the people who get these cars as projects end up sitting on them for such a long time with no movement. Most are shocked by the cost of an engine, even before factoring in labor to R&R. This might not apply to you.
The bad:
Unfortunately at this point in time, there are no known substitutes for an M56 engine. A 5.6 sedan will only take an engine from a 5.6 sedan, so the donor will have to be another M56 or a v8 Q70. From experience, I would not try to reuse any major oil-lubricated parts from an engine with engine knock - usually the entire system needs work.
FYI, the titan/armada/qx80 heads are set up vastly different than the M56. I highly suspect that the blocks offer better interchangeability, but I cannot say for certain
Something hopeful:
Well, at least the engine still runs. It might be hard to tell if the car is running at full power, but at least you have time. You could immediately stop driving it and take the engine to a machine shop/engine builder to assess the damage and see if they can salvage it.
A locked engine is more involved and expensive to revive.

A car like this is quite a gamble for a project. Y51 + V8 + sport model!
It could bring you immense pleasure when you get it on the road, or it will have you eating a bowl of ramen noodles mixed with snot & tears.

I wish you luck, and will be checking in for support once in a while.

Hahah. Sounds like Ed was reliving my days of restoring an '89 KLR 650 lol. I ended up succeeding in my mission after 3 years of kicking it around but for 3 years I was definitely eating my ramen with snot & tears lol.

But back to the car in question...definitely could be a solid find if you can limit costs by doing a bunch of repairs yourself.

IPL, NISMO and M56 with a big S (doesn't look like the right S). Interesting. Seems like the previous owner just kept adding badges to add HP :gotme

Brisak,

You're probably eager to drive your newly purchased car but you're going to run into a few things. First, the motor for the M56 is rare and although I currently see one on eBay for 5 Grand I would not recommend you buying it or any other used motor. If you do, you'll be wishing and praying that it doesn't have the same issues that your current motor has. Secondly, MANY people on this board, including myself, have or have had a bad motor with failing internals. While some will say that it was due to lack of oil lubrication I would argue that it is due to poor design. I currently have a rod knock on my M56 and I tried to get the engine replaced but the donor motor was bad as well. Long story short - there is a limited supply of donor motors for this car and since the motor is rare and virtually unknown, you'll have a tough time finding someone who is willing and qualified to repair it. Infiniti dealers will not touch a used motor. A new motor is close to 20K. It is simply not worth the headache, trust me.

If it looks too good to be true it usually is, which is why you only paid 3400 for the car. You will spend 7 grand easy trying to fix this car. (ask me how I know) I suggest you a) return it if you can, b) part it out and make a slight profit if you can, c) sell it to a junk yard and take a loss.

Gonna agree with Reggie. You got scammed by a clown.

That seller is more full of s*** than a Christmas turkey, and if you had posted that ad here before you bought the car, we could have warned you.

Post up his email and contact info so we can humiliate him. F*** I hate people like that.

I'd be eager to see these so called "serial number plates."

Well, at least you have a clean interior to part out. ;)

car-part.com may be a good source for a low-mileage takeout motor.

Make sure you get the exact same year, model, and trim package (except that fake NISMO stuff), as all of that is critical to the ECU.

Call your insurance company and make sure they'll insure it. You could drop $10k to get it running, get in an accident, and you'll get diddly-squat for the car. Kind of a waste of $13k+ IMO.

Truck engine is completely different.

If this was gonna be a cheap repair, the clown you bought it from would have fixed it. ;)

Not unless you want to transplant a Titan ECU and harnesses, the heads and control systems are way different. Even then, you might end up needing to transplant the tranny too. Big-big-big can of worms.

If you hadn't seen this one yet, it looks like it's being sold by JDM with 69K miles.
You would have to at least swap out the intake manifolds.
It's located in Orlando and imported by JDM according to the listing.

https://www.ebay.com/itm/Infinity-M56-Q ... SwkKBbKUux

Another one in LA, Ca. $4,350.00 with 52K miles and free shipping according to their website.
