they were very helpful and was ready and willing to take my money , they did a compression test and dry came up 149psi on all 4 cylinders . i told then to me that was not acceptable and it should be over 150 psi on each . he said give me a half hour and ill have another engine picked out and have a new compression test done well they could have gotten away with it until the scratches on the (new ) clean motor were identical to the first ones and they had gotten a little oil on the heat shield to me showing a wet test . 152psi on each, i give them 1 star for honesty but i already pay pal'd them what do you think of these number ? i know 128 psi is very minimal and 155 is good from the searches i did . I sent an email back calling them on it .well see what happens .

You have to remember that there are variances from gauge to gauge...if they have a cheapo deapo gauge it could read high or low. The main thing is that the cylinders are consistent which shows you that the rings/cylinder walls are relatively consistent and that the HG is good in its current state.

you gotta remember they are doing it on a cold motor . prolly arent holding the throtlle body open. it will read higher on a warm engine with t/b open

i thought you were not suppost to see numbers in the 150's on a cold test your just looking for consistancy throughout all 4 cylinders. Its not untill you do a test after the motor is warm up that your suppose to see those numbers............correct me if im wrong. when i got my sr i did a dry test by manually turning the crank and i got like 120 but it was the same for all 4. how did they do the test, did they hook it up to a battery and **** or did they manually turn the crank.

You cant manually crank for a compression test.

Be careful, Some suppliers will void the warranty if you go into the block/head. I don't think valve cover or oil pan will be a problem but they might not like the rod/bearing caps took off. If you are taking them off you might as well buy some new rod bearings and replace them while your in there.

149psi on all cylinders is very decent compression #'s...I would be perfectly content with those.

im going to try to move the rods by hand looking for play in the rods if it moves to much you know something is wrong . If everything looks good ill put the pan back on there see im not even going to be installing the sr until way later this year so the 30 day warrenty will be out the question so i need to take what measures i can to make sure my investment is protected .

240life your so right but like i said my cherry is just going to be getting popped i did not know that low psi compression like this is ok for a turbo motor ,to many people get screwed over because of the shipments and abuse of these motors ; i mean enjuku does not sell them anymore for this reason i posted an email from them a few months ago .So by me pushing the envelope they made sure to give me a good motor. (But what would cause this high of psi doing a dry compression test a few people have said 120 is normal. )So i guess ill have to wait and see .So far everything is going ok and hopefully we can have these guys a a good company to buy from especially for the price of there engine sets and the free shipping to my door with a lift gate i cant complain about that . Honesty is upgraded to a 3 1/2 stars and customer service( 5 out of 5 )price 5 out of 5 ,ill give my opinion on the engine when i get it .Dam i cant wait to finally be boosted .

it really depends on how long the engine was sitting. If the rings and cylinder walls had not dried up etc... I would say 120 would be a gamble but if all cylinders were within 2-3 psi of each other it would indicate a decent engine. I would definetally request a test with a tsp. of oil added to the piston area and go from there if my compression initally tested that low. It sounds like you should have gotten a decent engine...hopefully upon opening it up you will be satisfied.

this is why i am never apposed to buying a motor from someone locally. You can always get a little history and even though most local private sellers don't provide warranties, you can run the compression and leak down tests. and in some cases you can see the motor in a car before its pulled and given to you.

But with the sheer number of SR's being shipped across this country I would imagine that you will not have a single issue.

They must have just barely missed the ice storm here! I am in the planning state of my sr swap right now. I am hoping to have everything together this summer. We will see though.

I have also been to their albany store in NY. Ive purchased a few sr's from them already but I personaly go there and hand pick them myself and im usually there for a few hours to make sure im getting the best they have.

Sometimes they can be kinda shady but you cant point to the workers cause all they do is what they are told and thats putting the motor on a pallet and ship it out and most of them don't know much about each motor cause they carry pretty much every import car engine.

As for the compression check..usually all they do is do it dry then add oil and aslong as the numbers are all the same you will be fine.

Their prices are pretty nice. the cheapest I got an sr from them was an s13 blacktop for 1600 with the full swap.

take pics when you get the motor

I was planning on getting a SR front clip from them this spring, let us know how the engine is once it arrives. Just curious to know how the overall experience was.

The coilpack cover broke in shipping?

That ecu number seems to correspond with a s14 sr20det engine.

If anyone is in the MO, IL, KS area i'd suggest getting ahold of Dewy from http://JDMHookup.com . He just left for chiba to fill up a container or two of engines and parts to bring back, so he's gone for a month. I just got my kouki s14 sr20det from him. Awesome guy to work with.
