well yesterday i had the day off, so i decided to finally head to the exhaust shop and get my mufflers welded up with full custom piping from the cat back, i also removed the cat for a little extra flow.
i had purchased two mufflers in the beginning of july from a vendor at Raceway Park in Englishtown, NJ for $130 for both of them, which was a really good start especially since they are basically GReddy SP/SP2 replicas and they were also 3in as well. so for the past month and some ive been searching for piping and getting prices. i got quoted pretty high labor rates at some places and then piping...one shop quoted me $80/hr plus piping, but they wouldve also TIG welded it which was pretty good, but the price wasnt right.
i finally decided to head down to one of my friends' shop on 82nd street and rockaway blvd in queens, ny. the guy that did my piping (tesh) took a total of about 2.5-3 hours to complete the whole thing, which wasnt too bad even though i was there from 12:30 in the pm till about 7 at night, but he had to do alot of running around to get the piping and stuff, among other things for the shop as well. it was alright for me though since i had a day off and i really didnt have anything else to do.
now to the real story. since we removed the cat we had to replace that with piping. if any of you have seen the catalytic converter, the inlet on it is about 4in big, so we expanded a 3in pipe to fit onto that piece and then used that same pipe for about 3ft, then into a 2.5in pipe, into a y-splitter and then custom piping back into the 3in mufflers which was probably the hardest part to do. since its a dual exhaust system after the axle, its pretty hard to make both of them exactly the same, but my boy tesh did a damn good job at it. the only problem we have with it right now is the left muffler is angled a little too much inwards, because i kind of rushed him, but he said to take it back to him whenever im available and he will fix it for no charge. the plan was for me to have flanges installed as well, but he didnt get to it so when i go there next time he will fix the muffler as well as install the flanges for me.
i had a really good experience with that shop, and if any of you are in the NY area or even tri-state area and ever need any welding or any work done to your car, go to that shop. tesh is a really cool dude and he is more than willing to work out pricing with you for whatever you want done. just when you call tell him andrew from occ - onecrazycrew sent you.
i will get the number for you guys and girls along with all the pictures that i took and hopefully i can get some really good sound clips as well. the exhaust sounds amazing, and the mufflers look great with the back of the car. it looks almost stock to say the truth, but you can tell its not. there is restriction after the y-pipe except for the mufflers, no cat, no resonators, nothing, and it doesnt sound ricey at all. i think i made a really good choice in mufflers and got them for a steal. i wont tell you guys exactly how much i paid to get it done, but i will just say the total price of the mufflers, piping, and installation was wayyyyy cheaper than any other cat-back available for the sedan at this time...i got it for a steal
here are the pics with two video clips as well
This is the stock setup up...pretty ugly huh?
for those wondering why our stock system sucks, here it is! about a 6-7in long crimp in the y-pipe probably holds back about 8-10whp on its own...
no mufflers...
cold start, a little bit of rasp, but it goes away when its warmYouTube - 2007 Altima V6 w/Custom Catback
