OK so I have a 95 SE, it's maroon, has 109,000 miles, automatic, bone stock, extremely clean interior, clean frame, and the suspension is rusted. My friend said he would trade me for his 95 SE, which was painted silver, has like 175k, 5 speed, but has megan coilovers, and it came from Ohio so its pretty clean all around. I absolutely love my car, except its automatic and has stock suspension. i paid 950 bucks for mine, he paid around 2000 for his. I don't know what i wanna do, so i wanted some of your opnions.

you can look at this 2 ways..you have cancer (rust)..eventually..you will have a major issue if the cancer is not repaired...or you can trade out...loose your friend, possibly in an accident due to that cancer..or couse he realizes he got the crap end of the trade..do some thinking on that...what ever you come up with will be the rite answer for you.

well if he wants to trade, make sure he knows about the rust before hand, and if he still wants to trade then do it

He's one of my best friends, so he's seen my car. Honestly he probably wants it so he can sell it. But i don't have the money for coilovers and a 5 speed swap. It's just a tough decision. Because i love the color of my car, and i have the front lip and fog lights, and he doesnt. So i just wanted some other opnions.

Hold up there sparky. Let's think about this for a second. Your s14 is a stock automatic with rust, and his is a recently painted 5spd with coilovers(and why did you say "but has coilovers" like its bad??), yet he wants to trade straight up?? Am I the only one smelling something fishy here?

Usually, if it seems too good to be true, it is.

Doesn't seem fishy to me... unless you are only looking at the mods. The OP's car only has 107k, while the other one has 175k... big difference. Also, the OP said his had rust on the suspension, not the body or frame... what 240 doesn't have some surface rust on the suspension. I would also frown on coilovers when the word Megan is in front of it. On top of that, recently painted doesn't mean squat. I have seen as many variations of a "paint job" as there are 240's on this site. If it's not at least a several thousand dollar job, then it's not a great paint job. So taking all of these things into account, it seems like a pretty even trade.

I didn't mean to ssay coilovers in a bad way. But i am saying that my car is automatic with a lot less miles.
However, Hoffman, I don't smell something fishy. He has an RX-8 that he drives, so his 240 basically sits a lot. He bought it over winter, and I've done all the work on it with him so i know what's up with it. He paid 1900, i paid 950. And it does have its problems, and so does mine. His are more cosmetic, for example a dent in the hood, no lip or fog lights like mine has, driver window doesn't go down. Mine has no power steering due to a blown line, and bald snow tires. So the problems about even out i think. I'll try to get pictures of it tomorrow.

Well with my experience with both of my s14's, 170k miles doesn'y mean a whole lot. My first s14 was ragged out when I got it, and with me being 16, I drove the hell out of it and didn't pay attention to maintenance. After I had it for a while I actually started caring, but when I wrecked it, it had 208k on it, and it's still being driven by people who needed a cheap car because they forgot to put oil in their other car and ran it dry. And we don't know whether it's a good or bad paint job because there have been no pictures

op, that info you just gave would have been more helpful in the beginning

As long as its as clean as yours and you like silver more than maroon. Overall its nice to have a car that has not ever been tampered with (your car) not saying your friends has but i would base it on that for sure. Are you also saying that you would need to make your car 5 speed and also get the same coilovers in order to do the trade? Or are you saying you are getting the better deal because of his already being the way you want (kind of)? It is really up to you, but if you want the better of the two cars(without looking at them) It sounds like his may be the way to go unless there is some other problem that you are un-aware of.

:mike :gotme

If you really are attached to your car, maybe just keep yours. Its hard for US to really tell YOU what to do.

I know that it's hard for you guys to tell what i want to do, I just wanted to know what you would do.
And omega, one of my main reasons for trading him is because it's stick and has coilovers. I know my car hasn't been beat on though. I mean the interior is in mint condition. No rips in the leather, no stains anywhere. It looks immaculate. The lady who had to before me had it for a daily, just a normal car, but she drove it in the winter a couple years
