I need your help. Problem come from steering column.

I have a Nissan Versa 2009. On saturday, there is noise come from the steering column, and a piece of metal broke later. The piece of metal come from the bottom of the steering column. I want to know what it is used for? Could you tell me?

I attach the picture of the broken metal and the position where it was installed.

It is a small clip used for assembly in the factory. No need to worry. You don't need it, so just throw it away.
