Whats up guys.As some of you know my car was getting hot on the highway and it still is,even at night. So far I have a Koyo Rad,1 14inch fan, 1 12 fan (both pulling) and have replaced the thermostat w/ an OEM one.I bled the system one day and a couple of days later I had lost coolant somewhere (about 1/2 a gallon) .So I took it to a radiator shop and the first thing the guy told me to replace was my coolant overflow tank since it was cracked to hell. Also the first time I bled the system I had a LOT of air in the system,I jacked up the front of the car and let it run watching all of the bubbles come up and opening the bleeder screw every once in a while. Also adding some coolant as needed. When it was jacked up I also was checking for leaks and found none on the car or no coolant on the floor. I am going to try one more time to bleed it since the last time I did it I have lost coolant. I am leaning towards it being my thermostat although it is new it is still prone to fail. Is it possible that my fans are cooling so much on the highway that it is not letting the water get hot enough for the thermostat to open? The fans are running as long as the car is on.I stumped Please :help

I would personally have wired the fans to turn on when the car got to X temperature. I've been using Subaru temp probes on the crossover pipe to make the fans turn on when the car gets hot.

As for the thermostat, I doubt that that's the case. If the engine is overheating, then the stat will open. Check all your hose connections, especially your heater hoses. Mine weren't tightened down very well and started dribbling a few months after engine swap was finished.

Well my fans are always running on when the car starts and that is no problem, Im also in Florida heat. I had the same setup for fans before and that worked but I just switched to altima fans since my old ones dug into my radiator. So that doesn't seem like your problem. I forgot what to try but are you sure your thermostat is opening? Are both your radiator hoses getting hot?

Yes I can feel that both hoses are hot but I obviously have to stop the car to see and by that time usually it will begin to cool off but not significantly.Tenkawa, mine did the same thing and I have checked all of the hoses.Bah! I'm gettin tired of this!

well if the lower hose is hot, then it's prob not the thermo. If you're not losing any more coolant, then it's probably not bubbles. Have you checked the water pump? Or checked the cooling passages for buildup?

does it overheat usually after boostin it?maybe headgasket leaking (combustion) and getting air pockets into your cooling system.

The water pump pumps and I just recently replaced the radiator and dint detect any blockages. I hope it is not my headgasket I have a Greddy one. But I was thinking that my car would smoke at least a little or the oil would be mixed with coolant or vice versa.

Ok, I went home to see what I could do.I bled the system once again and reved the motor to about 4000rpm with the hood up for about 3 min and then saw the gauge jump up past the middle mark all of a sudden. So, as soon as I saw it jump I put the heater on. It really wasnt that hot until a couple of seconds(15 or so) then it started to blow hot air and the car started to cool off a bit but not back to normal temp even after I let it idle with the heat blowing as fast as it could. I'm going to take it to a place tommorow that specializes in cooling systems or if someone near me fixes the problem I'll give them 150 bones.thanks guys.

No.I tested the thermostat right now and it is good.I'm not losing coolant anymore but it still gets hot.I talked to Jeff and he says I might need a better fan.I think he may be right but I have to go check the CFM rating on those first. They are just two fans from autozone. Also my bottom shroud is not there neither is the top so I have to go find some and put them on.

the fan wouldnt explain why you are getting air pockets in your cooling system though. does your coolant have black sut in it at all (combustion byproducts)?

I am running the stock radiator, stock FWD Sr20DE thermostat, dual flex-a-lite fans with built in shroud, and a large Hybrid Power FMIC and I never get above the middle mark. I've got them hooked to an adjustable thermostat switch so they come on when it gets hot, and stay on until the car cools down, even if I cut the switch off.

I also recently hooked my AC system up, and the temps haven't changed.

It probably is your fans, if they don't have a shroud they may not be cooling the radiator properly.

make sure the fans are pulling air through the rad into the engine bay and not pushing.

Yeah I did have one wired backwards at one point.I am no longer losing coolant and replaced the alternator/waterpump belt and that made it a little better.I just need a better fan(These Suck).Damn 90+ degree weather!!
