My G20 has been acting up recently, but unfortunately my mechanic is on vacation until the 21st. I really don't want to take it to Infiniti for service, since it's SO expensive, so if anyone can point me to a good mechanic in the Boston area I'd appreciate it.

Independents have to charge the same for parts since they must buy from dealer. The labor rates around Atlanta are almost up to dealers [maybe $10-$13/hr less at most] because the QUALIFIED technicans cost the same if not more.

Our average bill is $403 per average problem visit: 2.7 hours.

EXPERT Independents can only save you so much maybe $30--$50 for the exact same work. You might get more real work from an independent for the same money however.

Most independents make money by using inferior parts, fluids, etc on Infiniti this is hard to do, if you value your reputation!

9 out of 10 times you can do as well at the dealer unless you have a specialty independent like T3 or those few around the US who have just started up and buy business with introductory pricing.........or the owner actually works on cars.

With oem parts costing 45-47% of a typical repair it is almost impossible to make a repair business go today.

What dealer lose on warranty work [relative term make less that the required rate] they must make up on after warranty services.

Yeah, the guy who owns the shop I usually take my car to works on them himself. He's been great and he knows his stuff well, plus he charges less than the dealer. I've never had any problems except when one of his mechanics went home sick and left a screwdriver on my valve cover  . But he's on vacation right now...so I guess I'll just be taking it to Nissan of Natick.
