Today I was on the freeway with the cruise on doing 75. I had the radio off and was just listening to the car. The cars enging at a nice cruising speed sounds sweet. A little rumble is all I get. I want it to be just a tad and I mean just a little bit louder. Any ideas. I don't want this to be much louder than it is.

Start by cutting out the premufflers...... See what that gives you..... If you dont like that you can always try the stillen bolt on exhaust.

what do you do come emissions time when they're inspecting the underneath of the vehicle with mirrors and it's failing the test?

Cutting out the pres shouldn't cause you to fail the test.

In Milwaukee they just hookup to your OBDS II port (Y33) and see if you have any codes. If not -you're outta there. They assume the car is stock if it doesn't show codes.

A G50 has more a complicated exam with the dreaded sniffer tube, and since it runs rich to begin with it's a fine line between pass and fail. That's why I re-registered to a different county.

Up here they used to do an under car inspection, right after the emission crap started... On my '77 Vega I had to find two junk cats and split them, gut them, and then MIG the halves onto the pipes so it looked like they were on -it passed anyway (with a 390 Holley!) so I really wondered about this "alleged" test.

Maybe stillen discontinued their exhaust..... http://www.stillen.com ?

Either way, try cutting the cans out first. if you dont like it, replace the rear thing with something like a dynomax or flowmaster, whatever you prefer.

I wish !! The state hires a company to do it -you have to take it to an emission test station, which is owned by the state. You got it good. This really sucks...

This would be cool but the cash flow isnt there quite yet.

I really want to just dump the rear can and replace that with somthing better looking and sounding. I just don't know where to look for that style muffler.

If you choose Flowmaster, I recommend that you use a 50 series or higher, as 40 and below sounds really crappy on a high strung motor, IMO.

I used a 50 series that was intended for a 99-up Expedition. And after 7 months its finnaly settling into a real nice tone.

Since we're on the subject, I have a 94 Q45 and was thinking about removing the rear muffler/resonator(?) and running new tail pipes straight out. Does anyone have any comments on how this sounds. Not looking to be really loud but would like it to sound mean.

How does that Stillen look for the 97-01 installed? I'm thinking about doing it, but I like the double tipped stock look.

You all think it is worth 250 plus install?

Your close to stillen, go pick it up. Install it yourself.

A few tools, some Rust Penetrant, and some vaseline for the rubber hangers. Done! Or grab a case of beer, and a friend.

I'm in the Bay Area so I'd have to get them to ship it. I will probaly do this but not now...I'm a total spaz when it comes to DIY stuff, I do what I do well and pay others to do the same. Just don't have the time or skills to do anything right .

Ah, I just saw you in the regional forum. Half Moon Bay.

For 250, it definatly would be better quality than just buying a muffler can, and having piping made to weld up for it.

Actually 250 is cheap comming from Stealin.

Buy It, i'll install it for you! hehehe.

Ive had experience comming from the Maxima world (2002 6spd), Also an exaust system is a simple process, just a few bolts and hangers.

Im comming into my own q45 hopefully in 2 weeks...1992! =D
