I thought I was getting the deal of a lifetime.. 1991 300zx n/t 2+2 AUTOMATIC. That was the only problem at the time, the fact that it was an auto., but other than thaat when I went to test drive it it seemed cool. The paint looked reeaal nice, pearl black. 17" chromed rims etc. So I ended up getting it froma guy who does this for a living, a friends husband to be exact! In less than a week the rear brakes were totally gone, then the transmission started slipping out of 1st gear into 2nd very hard, and sometimes even lagging. When I'd stop the car and go into the store and try to restart it the battery would be dead, I later found that the terminal was loose and just needed tightening. Supposedly after I took it back to him he got the problems fixed but I'm wondering if I should keep the car. It's got 118M on it. Is it worth it? The biggest issue I find is that he says it's a 3 speed. I had no idea but noticed that at 90mph it's redlining. When I take my foot off the gas it slows down pretty quick on its own, so I hardly ever have to use my brakes on the freeway. Is this normal? Not that I make a habit of going that fast, I save it for the track but at this rate I'll never be able to reach the top speed. Do I need an ECU upgrade? Thanks for reading. ..

As far as I know, it's a 4-speed, not a 3-speed. Check this out at http://autos.msn.com/research/...sub=0.

performance/reliability upgrade number one: get fourth gear back!

the z32 non-turbo is a good car. if you can aford to get it back up to original condition it will probably make you very happy and content.

check the fluid. car must be warmed up and running at idle in park. on dipstick it should be clear as to how full it is.

if filling it all the way up is not the fix, you need a full on a/t diag.

I'm going to get that full a/t diag first thing tomorrow morning, and get the sound system working. See I shouldn't have to pay for things like re-wiring the sound system.. I should know this stuff! Can you recommend any books on this as well?

Also, the fluids look good for now. After not taking care of it for however long he had it, the previous owner had a major tune up (or so he says) just before he sells it. Hopefully I'll find evidence of that tomorrow morning, but they look okay for now.Questions..NKG spark plugs okay?Recommended type of oil?

Thanks-Kris

doesnt sound good.

first off, check the fluid like chris said. if the fluid level is ok, then the overdrive clutch is probably shot and the car needs a transmission. it is definately a 4 speed, not a 3 speed. it shares the engine and transmission with the infiniti J30.
