I figured that I'd post this hear as there isn't much action over in the mechanic section. The car is getting sold to a friend of my Mom's and currently the o2 sensors are disconnected to keep the car from hesitating and surging when idling and during acceleration up to 2,000 rpm. I need to replace them but I have found that there are two seperate part numbers for the two sensors. The left o2 sensor remained the same from 90 to 95. The right o2 sensor has a different part number from the left and has had the part number updated 3 times from 90-95. First, I was wanting to know if anybody knows why the right o2 sensor is different from the left as they both look physically the same from what I can remember. Also, does anybody know why the right o2 sensor would continue to be updated thru the years while the left side stayed the same. There is also a big price difference between the two. If possible, I'd like to just get two left o2 sensors to avoid the price difference if there are no functional differences other then maybe one having a longer harness.

Is there anybody out there that happens to have access to the o2 sensors to any Q45 ranging from 1990 to 1995? If so, can you tell me if you see any physical difference in the left and right sensors. I am trying to get the car ready for my Mom's sister-n-law that bought it. She lives in Georgia so, the car is going to be driven from Jacksonville. Currently the car has been running with them unplugged so far but I want to get it right before it goes. The car is supposed to be delivered to her this Thursday.

Please help if possible, Thanks

Matt

I am no Guru but I can say that the O2 sensors for the right and left banks have differn't part numbers from each other. And normally that means that they wont fit but there have been ocasions where parts with differnt part numbers do indeed fit.

But I would say they are NOT interchangable, Thats why they might be differnt prices.

Good Luck.

Mine are a little slow, I will try the unplugging trick and see.

I think the difference is the length of the wire coming out of the sensor. http://www.sparkplugs.com shows the same sensor on both sides in the NGK brand. I suspect you just get two of them with the longer wire. $56.85 each.

Many members have had good experiences with that web site. The one I ordered for my old truck was truly OE identical and worked well for several years.

Well, I got one o2 sensor out on the driver side after working on it for about 30 minutes. I spent around 2 1/2 hours on the other before calling it a night. I ended up putting the other sensor back in that I took out so the car can still be driven. I bought a pair of Bosch universal o2 sensors from Autozone which I'm glad I didn't use. The reason is because according to the fold-up manual, there is a white, black, and a gray wire on the universal o2 sensor when actually there are 2 whites and a black. I had a 50/50 chance of getting the two white wires connected correctly. I'm going to try out that website that was posted above and hopefully have a better chance.

I noticed that on my own Q, the left o2 sensor reading is at .030 volts at 2000rpm and the right o2 sensor is at .800volts at 2000rpm. I hadn't been having any of the hesitation and stumbling that the other Q had when they were connected. I decided to disconnect them and I have noticed that I have more throttle response.
