i just got a 91 q and i just put a new motor in it with about 60k on it from japan. i need more power though. i already welded up my own 3" cat back system but i wanted to do some engine work. does anybody know where i can get some hot cams for the vh45 something with some more lift and longer duration. i also want to find some headers if anybody knows who makes them before i start welding my own (pain in my ***) id like any information on any kind of engine modifications for the vh45 i would appreciate it. thanks

For internal engine mods, check out NICO's VH and VK Engine Forum:

As it stands the only performance item you can do is having your ECU retuned. a member by the name of Elwesso would be to contact about it.The stock exhaust set up is the best set up to run with believe it or not as it flows real well for stock. headers for the vh45de in the Q have to be custom fabricated, as there is no aftermarket company that supplies them. there really isnt much performance wise. PLEASE do a search as there is a ton of info.

Hope you rehabilitated your timing chain guides and tensioners or you may have a real short ride. VC, plugs, EGR and KS and hoses are so much easier to get when the engine is ouit fo the car.

Ive never heard anyone say that after they have a 100% running VH45DE that they need more power...

For bolt on mods, start with an ECU and a high stall torque converter.. Those are the 2 best things to get started with, those will be the best bang for the buck.

I've got to ask since no one's mentioned it- You do know that your Q starts in 2nd gear from a dead stop unless you press the pedal to the floor?

Sorry to disagree with you Wes but for the money ($50-$75) I've got to put a 1st gear start TCU at the top of the list. He can enjoy it while he's waiting for his re-tuned NICO ECU to arrive.

After the ecu reprogram the next 10HP gets really expensive and runs about $120 each thereafter [except for NO2].

Exdrude hone plenum, runners, and heads is worth about 12 HP.

The illegal JDM exhaust [how you tell a real JDM from a US domestic] without the precats is good for ~~ 5HP

With all the above you can get 340 hp/335 lb/ft.
