hey everyone... i'm fairly new to the world of 240's and nissans in general... i'm coming over the from mr2 community and am exteremely curious about the 240sx... whether it be the s13, 14 or 15, they are all gorgeous or have tonnes of potential... so my question/request is, i'm looking for info on the 240sx in general... specifically the '89-93's... stuff like, what changed from year to year, what options were there and seeing as how i plan on buying one, what should i look for (or look out for)... i've done some searching on the site but there doesn't really seem to be much general info on here (maybe i was looking in the wrong place)... so any info on the 240's would be greatly appreciated...thanks in advance

S1389-90 SOHC 2.4l 4 bangers ~140hp/152tqCame in both fastback and coupe styles, the fastback's weigh a couple pounds more but have slightly better weight distribution than the coupes. It's mainly an aesthetic choice.

91-93's had the DOHC engine producing ~155hp/160tqAlso came in fastback and coupe aswell as convertible starting with 92 I believe. All convertibles were automatic and came in only White, Black, or Aztec Red. These years had a new front bumper aswell. There was a limited run of "Super HICAS" models that came stock with a VLSD, ABS, and Nissan's (quasi) 4WS system. Driving at the limits with this 4WS system has proved to be...unnerving by most.

94's were leftover 93 convertibles.

Note:S13 coupes often had a HUD option. *cool points*

S14All S14's sported the same DOHC engine from the later S13's but somewhat revised. They had milder cams that offered more low end -midrange power but limited the top end slightly, while still producing the same net power. Also, halfway through 95, S14's were equipped with the OBDII system. S14's also weight about 100-150 pounds more than the S13's but could be custmized in an unbelievable number of variants. Trim levels meant very little reall, except for wheels and spoilers. VLSD and ABS were options for all S14's.

95-96 "Jellybean" headlights.

97-98 Different, and more aggressive headlights aswell as mildy revised tailights.

We got no S15 sadly.

Be wary of the infamous timing chain rattle. Not very expensive to repair but a PITA none the less. Other than that just look for a well taken care of car. Every car I bought I had to get aligned right a way but i think that's just cause I'm cheap and didn't have the money to buy a car in excellent shape. Just remember that some of these cars are well over a decade old and they will show it, but don't be afraid of a car with 150,000 miles either.

Nissan built more S13's than S14's.The S13 coupe is pretty rare compared to the hatchback. And the 97-98 S14's (the ones with aggressive projector headlights) are much rarer than the 95-96 models.

The auto seatbelts are in the U.S. models from 89-93. I don't think they came in the Canadian models or the s14's and I know they didn't come in the JDM models.

Four versions of the SRredtop S13blacktop S13S14 (blacktop as well)S15 (blacktop, big premium for these motors)I know the S15 made 250hp and came with a 6spd. Power on the earlier models range from 200-220hp, I think. Check out the article, installs, & FAQs page where all the sticky threads can be found.

ive read that CAN models got away with manual belts. My sisters 90 Stanza (RIP) had auto belts so I would guess US S13s from 90 on had auto belts. S13 owners, chime in...

Definately not in s14's, thank god!

As for the car, generally s13s are accepted as more "unrefined". The s14 has a much nicer interior (especially the seats, which are horrible and twill in s13s). In 89-94, the difference between base and SE was insignificant... some power windows here, spoiler there. The SUPER HICAS model sported 4 wheel steering and an (optional?) VLSD. In the s14 the SE had 5 lug wheels with 16" alloys, white face guages, stiffer suspension, a better sound package, the spolier (optional on base model) and the optional ABS and VLSD packages. s14s also have airbags, which s13s don't have.

yes, often people swap on the 300zx brakes for the 5 lug bolt pattern, so they can get a better selection of wheels, and supreme stopping power.
