ok heres the dilemma: i have a 92 q45a which i put huga amounts of money and time into but i blew the motor transmission and rear differential this past winter by redlining for about 2 hours with low oil (long story involves alot of snow and a baby...and of course a girl)so ive been looking into replacing the motor transmission and rear diff i got the diff cheap from popop and a motor and transmission set will cost 1400 from jdmexchange in philli then i was going to do the install myself. and at the same time finaaly replace the front multivalve and power steering pump for the active suspension as well as being able to do the timing chain guides and under plenum hoses while the motor is off the car (i did it the first time with the motor on the car and it sucked)

HOWEVER i found this auction on ebayhttp://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors...%3AIT

And im tempted to just buy this instead and either drive it or have it shipped to maryland my car is almost identical and i would have almost any part necessary to swap or whatever i have fully charged accumulators and my stereo and rims would go right in the new one please any input would help also if the transmission has this many miles would changing to a newer tcu cause any more damage

At 241K+ miles without any service records, I would say you should count on any mechnical items being failed.

Don't see how this really helps.

I would consider the length of time you plan to own the car. If you intend to drive it another 100K, and keep it another 3 years, then the cost of the motor & transmission might be a worthwhile investment. Otherwise it might be time to move on, or find one with less miles.

Layla had close to 250K when I sold her for $1,600.00 She could still boil the tires, and run 150 MPH with ease. I miss her a lot. I even saw a silver Q today and started to chase it, to see if it was her.

The dilema I faced, was a new transmission, under plenum hoses, knock sensors, plugs (for the 4th time), and I had close to 100K on the Tokiko Blues. It was shaping up like another $3,000 worth of investments.

Lola was sitting there, with a little over 100K on her clock, just waiting to take over daily duties. I paid $4,500 for her, and dumped another $4,500 in her to get her to OEM spec. Now I am dumping another $2,000 in her to make her "special".

I think finding another car, with less miles is a better plan. If you buy the one you mentioned, only pay about $1,500.00 for it.

My $.02

So what do they say? 241K+ miles is 80% of an impeccably maintained (Q45tech standards) VH45DE engine.

I would go for a rehabilitated JDM takeout and a Nissan rebuilt transmission. Differentials are a crap shoot. Of course, if you have any rust from the snow belt, all bets are off.

one of the other issues i had was the active suspension i love mine but the car i have has all sorts of issues every time i have it diagnosed at the dealer they give me lists of parts needing replacement and evry time there alwayse something different and they wont work on it at all because they have no records of the fluid being changed and therefore dont want to take responsibilty for the system so i had to do the flush refill and bleeding on my own if this other Q from cali had the fluids changed dosent leak anything and purrs then maybe in another year or so i could swap the engine and put a rebuilt transmission as well as some upgrades ive alwayse wanted. i wouldent pay more than 1200 for the car. and all the maintenance items i would need i have on the other engine (chain guides, under plenum hoses, plugs, and anything else i could possibly think of) i guess 241K is pretty high but the one i currently own would probably cost another 2500 to get it working the way i want it in addition to the engine transmission diff and power steering/active pump

thanks for the input everyone i dont post very often but i watch and read lots of the stuff that comes up so thanks for your help ill let you know how it turns out

I'd never consider buying from a zerofeedback lister across the country.

Other options are out there, and your long term plans play a big part in what makes the most sense.

Ha, I bid on that Q myself at the very beginning.. 1400 is a good price for a JDM marriaged engine and transmission. JDMexchange is the company I've been excited about since it's east coast and the least expensive "good" JDM engine. Have you actually bought the engine and transmission yet? I think that's the best way to go if you want to drive your Q for a while. How's your driveshaft? Be sure to get a new transmission mount and engine mounts as well. If for some reason you back out of your plans and want to see your Q go to a good owner let me know. I'm from B-more! Where at in B-more??

If you go to get an engine, they had better let you pick one out. Insist on it. The 4:08 is more difficult as I've already shredded one up, but others have done it and it's still holding together. I'm on my second attempt at that. The active differential has sensors as well as ABS brake gear. If you still have your active suspension working, then it's best for you not to change the pumkin. But hey, whatever you can get to work..
