So I bought another s13 coupe and like an idiot didn't know it was a salvage title reconstruction  This is not the issue as it runs fine, has a straight frame and has no issues.

The problem is that it is an out of state title transfer which is a whole nother process when dealing with a salvage-reconstruct, which the first person at the DMV had overlooked and the second person caught. So now here's the new set of hoops the CA peoples republic has required me to jump through:

1) Break and light inspection at a local auto shop so that I can proceed to step 2
2) Temporary registration till I finish the process
3) CA smog
4) CHP inspection to verify the "restored" condition of the vehicle for the new salvage title

Here are the problems I need your guy's help with:

1) Front right corner light is busted so I need to replace it before I can even get to step one. However I can't find just one on ebay and all they have is set's of two and for some reason ppl think they are really worth 100 to 150 a set which is retarded... Anyone got just one i can purchase? Is there anyone in the Humboldt, Trinity, Del Norte, or Mendocino area that has one and doesn't want to part with it and is willing to let me borrow it (against collateral of course) so I can get the inspection?

2) CA smog is gonna be an issue because this new car is turbo'd but I'm working on that from another angle but if anyone has any suggestions or help with that please feel free to message me

3) California Highway Patrol inspection... Does anyone know what this is? gone through it themselves? know what it entails? and, most importantly, know if they inspect underneath the hood? Also this new car has a silvia front end with HID's and will this be a problem?

This whole thing seems like more of a pain in the a** than I need because I don't really plan on living in this state much longer for the reasons that they try to regulate every little thing you do and have more rules and regulations than the DPRK

haahaha relax buddy youre sweatin it too much I moved here from out of state and went through all this same stuff. Get your lights fix, is the engine a ka or sr? if its a ka it will have to be a carb approved turbo set up if its an sr you can schedule an appointment with a B.A.R. refaree and have an inspection and smog done to make the swap legal if you have any more questions hmu

Getting into this hobby isn't going to be cheap or easy. What S14Magician is saying is all new to me. Carb approved turbo set up? Taking in your SR to get a smog ref inspect it? This is California, if it's not 100% stock with all emissions devices installed, you're going to have a hard time. Who knows though, you might go in there and get someone with some kind of leniency. I had an uncle go into a state ref with his USDM B18C1 Honda Civic three times before they would let him pass. All of the original factory parts were on to include all smog equipment. Mind you he didn't change any of the set up each time he went in, yet they still failed him twice. Somehow, they let him pass the third time.

Well first off you're f***ed so move to a different state. Anyways, back to solutions... From what it sounds like your going to have to go through the whole nine yards to get this thing registered in Cali.

1. Fix it/replace it/revert back to stock or move, those are your only options for number 1.
2. You're f***ed if you need to take it to a Gold Shield Station instead of a Test Only Station. Figure that out. If do, then revert back to California KA24, or move, or sell.
3. CHP's inspect everything, from seat belts and lights, to engines.

Basically you're only options are:
1. Revert to complete mechanical stock.
2. Turn it into a track only car.
3. Move.

this is one of the few things i love about being active duty military, i keep my car registered in illinois and no matter what state im in they cant s***. ill never give up my sr.

to the op: do you have family in another more automotive friendly state? you can always register it with them. and if you get pulled over just say youre living in ca temporarily for work.

Ok so I realize its been a while since I posted on this topic... I had everything set to go but then it all fell through as would only seem fitting, f*** my life right?..... My new options are to revert everything back to stock and try and pass it. The reality is that I am and have been living in Cali so I'm pretty much screwed and as far as I can tell most other states don't recognize other states' salvage reconstruct certification. I found out the only reason why Cali has CHP inspection is to certify that none of the parts involved are stolen, and you need to bring receipts. Dont have those and the kid who I bought the car from isn't answering the phone. So now its lookin like I'm gonna have to buy another car and swap everything over, get em both registered and then one will be my track car n one will be my daily.

I do have family friends and friends that live in OR but unfortunately its hard for me to claim residency when I dont live there, have never lived there, and work in Cali. And apparently they will prosecute me if I do claim residency to get it registered and don't fulfill their requirements... anyone know how strict they are or if I'm just being paranoid or stressin too hard?

s*** I wish they would do that, plus the people that would are friends not family, and with insurance and all wouldn't this be a little problematic?

i wouldnt have friends register it in their name. that makes a huge mess when friends become enemies. if your family wont do it youre sol dude. time to look for a way to cheat the system or leave cali (which sucks anyway).
