I have a 1994 Q45 which I ended up with by default. Won't go there just now. The problem: I installed new spark plugs and new ignition coils. When I took the wires off the old coils, several of the connectors were, well, crumbled - or disintegrated. Now I canot get the connections to stay on the coil packs. Two are totally shot and a couple others aren't in too good of shape either. The car has 130k on it and I replaced the original plugs (and coils). The car is in basically good condition but has had little if any routine servicing by its' original owner. I am now in the replace mode.Any suggestions as to correcting the situation without a new wiring harness? Any and all help/suggestions will be greatly appreciated. Thanks

You're going to want new plug wires, I think. They can sting the wallet, I know, but they're one of _the_ most crucial parts to make sure are working flawlessly. Any kind of bad connection can get cylinders gunked up, debris in the system, all sorts of very bad things. If your plug wires are that bad, give a light 'squeeze' test to all your hoses, and check your belts for wear.

How exactly did you get this car? Is it "distressed" at all, by flood, accident, or anything like that?

You might seriously consider a trip to T-3 for a coplete diagnosis so you can triage the deferred maintenance.

Never heard of the plugs degrading so badly so quickly.

As for the car, I think that everything that I do to this car is a "sting" to my wallet. As for the history of the car, here goes:An elderly gentleman bought the car new. Apparently he left it outside most of the time (sun bleached the carpets and interior-but not too bad). When he died, he left the car to his daughter who didn't need or want it. She sold it to a guy who did some work on it with hopes of reselling it and making a profit. He!! He!!! I bought it (for a good?! price) with the idea of letting my youngest son have it (college late in life). After a year or so of driving it with no maintenance other than an oil change or two, he decided it was too expensive to keep up. It sat for over 6 months. That's when I took it back. That was 5 months ago. To date I have replaced the front brake rotors and pads, control arms, reworked the rack on the steering, new tires, new blue tokico struts, and as noted new plugs & coils, battery, and air and fuel filter. I also changed to Mobil 1 (oil and filter). It has also had a new radiator, hoses, thermostat, power steeing pump, water pump, and mass airflow sensor replaced pre to my ownership. I also had to replace the sunroof switch and the driver's door window regulator and motor.- not to mention all 3 tesioner pulleys and belts. If I ever get the blasted thing running I have more plans for it. It is a southern car with absolutely no rust. The underside is as clean as you could ask. The right front fender has a ding in it but not a major problem. Other than changing out the rest of the fluids and filters, I plan to paint and reupholster the car - just as it was originally. That is a long term project - say a couple of years at least. In the interim, I plan to drive it and replace/repair whatever else breaks, quits, wears out or falls apart. Guess that gives you some idea as to the disgust that I feel right now. Got to get it on the road soon or I'll be going nuts. Besides, its taking up space in my garage - I would like to put one of my newer cars in there and let it set out.

While it is strange that the wires would just disintegrate like that, I do have spare coils and harness if you need it.

But to me it sounds like the previous owner (the one that did only 2 oil changes before dumping the car) didn't know anything about cars.
