Hello everyone!! I am so happy that i found this forum! It really made my day. I am NEW to the datsun world. i have always been a VW guy and have read tons of VW forums to build my sandrail. Now i have an 83 datsun and need some help with it.
First, I rebuilt my carb and im still having problems with my idle and have hesitation at low RPM exceleration. SO what i need is instrucion on how to get rid of all the EGR vac line crap and know what i HAVE to keep hooked up to the vac system
Second, I will be buying a weber 38 carb for my truck, any thoughts? should i go for it or no?? also im planning on pace setter headers, anything cheeper out there???
Third, please send me a link instructing me on how to reajust my valves, set my timing with a timing gun, and any other great links you think i would benefit from..

I have read alot of posts you guys have on this forum and i have just not found what im looking for. I can see you guys are really good at what you do and im very open to learn what you take the time to teach

Thank you
Colton :)

Welcome aboard, Colton!

We're still loading the service manuals for the 720 (somehow, we have manuals for everything BUT the 720)... I'll get "The Reverend" or PeZi in here to help, they know the 720's inside and out.

first check for vacuum leaks, there should be vacuum diagrams in the stickies and random info. Also there is a full carb rebuild write up.

The weber pretty much cleans up the vacuum system well. I went to a hydraulics shop and got plugs for the exhaust.

You can remove the VVT valve, the EGR valve and you will need to plug off the middle port on the Thermal Vacuum Valve located on the coolant pipe on the intake side of the cylinder head. Follow the hoses from the VVT valve to the throttle body. Both those lines can be removed and plugged. If I were in your shoes I would look for a Haynes or Chilton manual just to get a glimpse of the vacuum system for reference. I don't have a way of scanning the manual I have. Also note: This info was taken from a 1982 FSM which means the info is for a Z22, there may be slight differences for the Z24. I do not currently own a 1983 FSM yet. You will want to keep the vacuum switch and the boost control unit. You will also want to keep the vacuum advance on the distributor. Go get a Haynes manual so you see the vacuum system pic.

Pacesetters are really the only option out there. I had a Z22 that I put headers on many years ago. The butt dyno said more power but I was a kid back then and couldn't appreciate a car they way I do now.

Vacuum Diagrams are posted in there a couple times, and for all years I do believe.

The pacesetters make the truck loud as balls, but only offer about 3-5 whp. Granted, on such a low hp truck, it is still noticeable. There is another brand out there, but the name escapes me. They were good for 5-10 whp but cost about 2-3 times as much. Thorley? Seems to ring a bell.
