no offense, but if you dont know how to do it, and you cant even find the bolts in the first place you shouldnt be doing a job like that. screw it up and you will probably looking at even more damage than you already have.

get someone who knows what they are doing to help you or take it to someone who does.

just my $.02

I'm just ****in with ya. I ain't xactly Mr. goodwrench myself, torqued an oil pan bolt to about 30ftlbs before it broke one time.

If it's a KA I can't help, never wrenched on one.

the engine has to be raised separate from the car. i could walk you through it step by step but i wont since you had to get all cocky and call everyone an ***.

dont take anything on the internet seriously everyone was just joking. i just gave my honest opinion. and if you cant handle that then you need to grow up.

Oooh... you meant "lifting the engine".... why didn't you just say so?;)

You could also drop the suspension to get to it. And no, I don't mean lower you car.:rolleyes

I managed to jack up the engine by unbolting the motor mounts and jacking it up by the bellhousing on the trans. I could get enough room to slide the oil pan out. Dont' forget to use new sealer on the pan, and it's a ***** getting those bolts on the motor back into the mounts. Do a search, i had a post about a rounded off oil drain plug and i managed to do this job with almost no experience, but it wasn't easy....

that has to be the biggest pain in the ***. i dont know why it is that way on the 240. you look at it thinking theres no way in hell that is going to fit. BUT with a lot of swearing and a lot of pushing and prying it goes in eventually.

LOTS of swearing, yes, especially after a million other unexpected problems before that :-D

actually, if you go here, on step 30 it tells you how to get the oil pan off without raising the engine, you just have to take a few steps to get it off. I didn't do it when I was changing my timing chain cuz it looked like a ****** to do, but it's gotta be easier than lifting the motor.

My Question is why do you need a new oil pan? Typically, unless it's damaged enough to somehow block the oil pick-up or it has a hole or something, then there should be no reason to need a new one.

Secondly, IIRC, the oil pump is external on the SOHC. If you follow a straight line from the distributor across the front of the engine, it should be on the other end. The oil pump and distributor use the same shaft.

IMO it would be easier to pull the motor and do the work outside the car. While it was out you could do the front and rear mains, scrub the crap out of the bottom of the engine, clean the whole engine and take care of any leaks you can't see or get to while it's in and put it back together. Don't know about the KA but the CA has about 57 little preformed hoses under the intake that blow at the worst time and always need replacement. Compared to working around or dropping the engine crossmember it just seems simpler.

Easier to brace the motor up and drop the crossmember, that way it's completely clear of everything.
