Hello everyone.
I have a 1994 Q45 and when i start my car and put it in [ D ] It doesn't move. But if i put it in [ 3 ] it moves.. While it moves in [ 3 ] i can shift it to [ D ] after 5 minutes of the vehicle moving. And it will drive with no problems. I was told that i need to rebuild my transmission. But i wanted to see if that is the problem or not, before making that step.

Please if anyone can help me i will greatly appreciate it.

Thanks in Advance

Check the Transmission linkages and make sure the inhibitor switch is set correctly.

The transmission fluid temperature sensor reports the Transmission Control Unit (TCU). When the fluid reaches optimal temperature (176*F) the TCU allows the shift into D(4).

You should always let the vehicle warm up (Before driving) as its been proven to use only .1 gallons of fuel at 70*F.

Thanks Infinitiguy. I will look into that. Some people are telling me that i need to rebuild the transmission , and some are telling me that it can be a sensor.. The car runs good when you put it in Drive. Also i forgot to say that some time it slips in [ 3 ]. But i will look into what you just said, I will have my mechanic friend check that out for me. Thanks again

How about a report on the condition of the ATF (white paper towel test)? Maintenance history? Auxiliary ATF cooler? Miles?

If it is slipping in any gear, failure is likely imminent. You could try a BG transmission fluid flush at a shop w/ BG products with a quality transmission fluid. This was successful in my case. If this does not remedy your issue, then the transmission is probably toast.

Sorry to be the bearer of bad news, but as they say, it is what it is...

1) The BG transmission flush ASAP (yesterday)
2) IF the transmission ,when HOT, perform well--shifts good, etc., then the unit is mechanically sound and problem is likely to be 'varnish/deposits' in the valve body which are inhibiting the movement of the precise sliding pistons.
3) It IS possible that a seal on one of the internal high pressure accumulators is stiff and leaking when cold, but sealing when hot--but that is low probability.
4) A decent transmission repair shop can do a 'pressure test' on the unit to check and see if the operating oil pressures are correct. If the high pressure is LOW, this indicates either worn pump, leaking accumulator seals, or stuck pressure control valve.

5) As stated---if the unit functions OK when HOT, then mechanics are good. BG flush should cur eit.
