Does not crank... check the battery, does the lights in the dash come on? Turn on the lights, is it dim? if there are no lights on the dash or lights are dim or no lights. bad battery. If after new battery or jump, it still don't crank, bad starter or bad wiring to the starter. That's about it for now, give us more info after you try that out.

Check for incorrectly grounded ground wiring.

is it turning over at all with the starter? worry about that first before you think about the spark: one step at at a time. If your starter isnt popping out or even doing anything at all, try turning the key to the "on" position and then shorting the + and - on the starter with a screwdriver. You'll get some sparks and the little gear should pop out and start whirring up. If it doesnt pop out, or does so really weakly, you're going to be needing a new starter.

Once you get it cranking and turning over, THEN worry about spark. It's probably your timing or a bad rotor or something (or your wiring), but figure out your starter first.

oh, you said in your first post that it wasnt cranking so I thought the starter wasnt turning it over...

Check the condition of your rotor + cap, wires, and plugs. If you're getting power at the coil then its most likely one of those things.

Plugs or wires like fiznat said. The caps should be fine from the sound it usually makes a funny noise when those go bad but still started the car.

one of the few distributors you installed maybe not lined up right? sounds like a timing problem if shes constantly trying to turn over but never catches.

be careful not to wash down your cylinder walls - which is probably too late since I think you tried many times to start this....and those before you.

Put the car at TDC, and get the distributor pointing to #1.

can you hear the fuel pump when you first turn the key but before you turn all the way? should hear a sort of buzzing sound...

if those wires were all cut when you got it, lord knows what was done to it.
