Hello I'm a new member and since it sounds like you are the experts on Q's. What is the crankshaft position sensor. I have a 1990 Q45. It started to jerk and cut off when I stop. So I'm having problems if it's the fuel pump (5mos old) or a sensor. It's not turning over and I'm smelling gas. Someone told me the timing chain. I need help.

90Q 197000, 5 mos fuel pump, tune-up 1 mo, oil change 1 mo

When was the last time your fuel filter was changed... It shoulda been changed with the pump! however (esp if the old pump failed on you) that the controller is fried, and fried your pump...

The crankshaft position sensor... See attachment...

It is possible that the guides have failed.. Does the car crank?

Thank you for emailing me back. The fuel fillter wasn't change when the guy put the fuel pump in. He did something wrong because after he put the pump my gas hand doesn't work and so I can't tell if I have gas in it or not. But I keep it full anyway and keep up with the miles. Could the fuel pump could be bad again. If it is the sensor what would my car be doing?

If its the sensor the car should start and run, but it wont go above 2k or 3k RPMs..... It would run VERY sluggish, and would possibly act weird.....

He must have relaly screwed it up... Did you buy a new OEM pump, or a used one??? Obviously he didnt replace the Oring (fuel smell, i didnt either and I have fuel smell ) and he bent/broke the sender..... Tsk Tsk

I suggest you take the car somewhere or do it yourself, and test the fuel pressure.....

I took it to another mechanic and he said that he will replace the pump since it id still under warranty and he said that it's the sensor, but he didn't give me a price yet. Thank you so much for your help.

The CAS is definately a possibility. You might check it's electrical connector first and see if you find any corrosion. If you ever have the car down in the Columbia area I could take a quick look at it and let you know what I think.
