It has been an interesting last couple days. My starter AND my battery BOTH crapped out on me Sunday after lunch! So I pushed my beloved 200sx SE-R off and drove home. Now comes the fun part, finding the freaking starter. Me and my stepdad literally spent 2-3 hours looking for the stupid thing! What was Nissan thinking when they decided to put it there? It is nearly impossible to get to! Well, at least for me to get to... So I call my buddy who is a much better mechanic than I am. He manages to get the starter off (without actually seeing it) and we go on a quest to find a replacement. Not the first part store within a reasonable distance has the dad-gum part in stock! Well, this all went down yesterday, so we decided to sleep on it. Me, my mom, and my stepdad get up and head out to find the part and we luck out. The local mom and pop shop was able to get it in by 4pm, so we took them up on the deal. We went back to the house and replaced the spark plugs and started changing the oil (we got it drained and got the new filter on) before picking up the new starter. After picking up the starter, we spend the rest of the freaking afternoon (until it got stormy because I don't have a garage... grr) trying to wiggle the starter into place. We were unsuccessful! Sadly, my buddy who got the old starter off is unavailable until Saturday and neither me nor my stepdad can manage to get it into place.

So... My question to the NICO community is... Do y'all have any pointers on how to get this stupid starter in the car? I am about to the point where I want to pull the engine to do it, but at the same time, I don't want to because of the hassle... I really am in a lose-lose situation here.

Get a friend to start the car on while you get a pole and tap it while he trys to start it?

The starter is laying in the trunk of my car right now and quite a bit of the engine is disassembled to fix some other issues. I just need to figure out how to finagle to part into its proper position.

Well, we replaced the starter but it still didn't crank. It pushes off, but I need to be able to turn the key and go. I think the ignition switch may be the new culprit so we are going to tackle that tomorrow (hopefully). Jeez, I miss driving my b14... I have been driving a freakin Chevy 1500...

You did hook the cable back up to the starter after you put it back in right?
