Hi, My names mike i live in PA. Im havin trouble on a decision i want to ask fellow nissan owners for help on my choice. I am 17 an own a 96 neon it runs like a neon with 100k on it but my mom was orginal owner. My buddy at work asks if i want to buy his 240sx i go for how much and ****. It is a 93 hatchback with 80k miles and he askin me for 1500. Theres a catch it was in a front accident. It was marked salvageable he fixed most of the **** and said he will take the recovered form to a mechanic. Now there are odds and ends wrong with it but engine and extra parts are basically new. I dont know how much i should poor into this i dont make much but i have about 3k. I never see nissans on the road and i heard there fast. So should i buy it and spent a year fixin it or save my money? Thanks in advance for the help.:help :help

If most of it is fixed (IE. Panels, Paint, etc.) then buy it.

If not, then your gonna spend alot of money to fix it.

don't buy it. you can get one that hasn't been in an accident for less than $2000

The front end damage is a big warning sign. I suggest an unbiased mechanic look it over. Could be buying a can of worms If by "marked salvageable", you mean it has a salvage title, I'd pass.

Depends on how bad of a front accident it was in I think. But do as all of the above have said and get it checked out by someone you trust to give you a truthful answer.

$1500 is a good price for a salvaged '93, but that's heavily dependant on the damage. Definately have an unbiased mechanic check it out and give you a quote on how much it would be to repair the car. If all can be said and done (including paint, and negating all problems from accidents or other misuse of the car) under $3000 it just might be worth it. 240s are decently fast cars (faster than neons for sure) and a lot of fun to drive, just don't expect to be faster than much more than economy cars (civics, neons, etc).

He put a new hood and front fender on but its black so it needs a paint job. Think it would be worth it for 1k

I see that you're getting serious about buying this car, else you wouldn't have asked this question. I suggest you get it checked out by a mechanic, get him to tell you how bad the damage was. Don't be like me and end up *just* running a carfax report and not having stuff listed (my drivers side door is a replacement...makes you wonder:sad)

I would ask t olook at the receipts for the engine, and talk to the place it came from. Ask for compression test, proof of mileage.

Beware. "NEW" means off a junked car, to a lot of cheap rebuilders. Have a frame shop look at the frame. You could spend $100.00 having the car checked out, but save thousands. By looking at the general condition of the shocks, wiring, and misc parts on the car, you can see what kind of person owned the car before. By looking at the repairs made (welds, body panel fitment, missing panels, etc(, you can see what kind of person is fixing the repairs.

Good Luck.

I personally would keep looking, for that 1 owner car, or buy from a NICO member.

Jeff's right - Skip that POS.

A car with a salvage title can not be insured for collision/comprehensive. That means if it gets damaged while you own it, YOU pay for the damages. If it gets stolen, you get nothing.

Buying a salvage-title car as your sole means of transport is foolish and short-sighted. There are lots of 240's in good shape out there for $2K.
