Ok here is my situation. I have a 92 240x fastback. The motor has 88k on it. I am thinking of either putting a sr20det motor into it or throwing a turbo kit onto the ka24de. The car is gonna be daily driven so I am not looking for tons of horsepower. My main worry is cost. I can get a full turbo kit new w/ fmic and everything for $2k or a sr20det for like $2400. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

Well, my opinion is if its gonna be a daily driver i would go with a turbo charged ka for four reasons. 1. if you break something on the ka, which you wont if the fuel delivery and spark timing are done right, you could get the part fixed easily. 2. A turbo ka makes tons more torque than a sr20 and to quote steve saleen "torque wins races horsepower sells cars" torque will get you up and going and as you know the ka has great torque and with a turbo you will have great top end too. 3. if you get a kit from f-max or nsport you know that the turbo is new the manifold is new and the fuel delivery and spark will be taken care of. but with a USED sr20 you are taking a gamble. 4. these days with the excellant aftermarket support for the ka24de you could easily upgrade later if you wanted and push more boost. companies like stillen, f-max, je, crower, back yard productions all have excellant parts for the ka. hope i have helped

It really depends but driving an SR20DET, let me tell you it will be plenty more than $2400 for the SR. Garage SPL up in Seattle was quoting me about $3300 for the total SR swap.

Yeah the $2400 was just for the motor and parts. It didnt include install. If I picked up the turbo for the KA motor it would only cost me like $2k and no install cause my buddy can help me do it. Thats why I am leaning more towards the ka24de-t setup.

It is through a friend of mine. He can get me the kit at wholesale cost or something.

Can you hook me up with the turbo kit? I'll give you $2200 + shipping ;) We're talking about the nsport turbo kit for the DE engines right?

yeah, I like my KA, I roast most things with moer high end HP, because the torque band is sooooo smooth and much, much larger(total torque) than them, and by 3rd gear(over 80) where HP matters more than torque, Im gone by then anyway :)
