I've already done everything that's in the FAQ. I've lined up the distributor exactly as indicated, I've followed the exact timing instructions. I've tried to set it with and without a techtom type instrument. I'm at my wits end.

After warming up the car, unplugging tps, revving engine, setting idle at 700-750, I still can not get the timing marks to line up with the indicator. I have the distributor rotated counterclockwise as far as possible and the closest I can get to 20degrees btdc is about 30 degrees btdc.

The engine is idling but becomes extremely rough below 1000 rpms, it starts shuddering and then revs back up to 1100 before settling back down.

This is all on an enthalpy 550/z32 maf tune.

Does ANYBODY know how to get the timing marks to line up right?

Yep. This one of the most annoying things with the KA. If you cant reach the correct timing and the motor is running rough, you are probably off by 1 tooth on the distributor. Youre going to need to pull the dizzy back out, reset the motor at TDC for the compression stroke for #1, and try again.

This step is a HUGE pain. It almost always takes me at least 3 or 4 tries before I get it right, it seems like its just luck pretty much. Annoying, but not impossible to do. Keep at it and you'll find the right tooth. You'll know when you do- the motor will run MUCH smoother and you'll be able to get to the right base timing just by rotating the dizzy. On the other side of things, if you miss the correct tooth by any more than you already have, the motor wont even start.

Good luck!
