Hi I'm new here and I need help with my 1997 Nissan Pathfinder 3.3. Ok first of all someone broke the Purge Cut Valve (the little hose on top of it) anyways ok so I replaced that and the SUV won't stay running under 2,000 RPM's I replaced the fuel filter and tested to see if the fuel pump works and it works fine and I also tested the EGR valve and works fine too but I need to know what's causing the problem PLEASE help me out!!! Thanks. :gotme

Need a little more info... (and I'm going to move this to the Pathy forum).

Did the running problems begin with the broken valve, or after the repair? I'm not clear on when the problem started. Is it throwing a CEL? Does the truck stall, or does it just idle really high? Manual or automatic?

We'll get you fixed up, just need to get some more diagnostic info.

Welcome aboard!

Th problem started before I fixed the valve. What's a "CEL"? It's a automatic. It stalls but its like it trys to run but it puts a few times and dies.

CEL (Check Engine Light) refers to the "service engine soon" light. If it's lit, could you get the codes pulled? Most auto parts stores will read them for free, or if you can't feasibly drive it to one maybe see if a friend has one to lend you.

Ok... We'll have to do a little more diagnosing.

If you have access to a scanner tool (they're like $40 on Amazon), you can check for pending codes. If there's something wrong, even if the light hasn't kicked on yet, it'll show on the scanner.

Let's make sure the MAF is plugged in (take a picture of your underhood area and we can point it out if you don't know where it is).

Then, let's do a THOROUGH inspection under the hood. We're looking for disconnected vacuum hoses, specifically. Often, when someone does a repair, it's not hard to knock off (or break) a hose or connector, and you'll tear your hair out chasing the issue.

We'll break out the Factory Service Manual next... do you have a multimeter?

You can buy a cheap one from Walmart or Harbor Freight.

Ok I think those are the pictures I took ones of the vacuum lines and the PurgeCut Valve that I bought. I'll buy one when I get some money on Sunday.

We'll walk you through it, but without being there and being able to lay hands on it, you;re gonna have to be the "hands." :)

Also, what city are you in? We may have a local who's good with diagnostics.

Do me a favor - Unplug the marked sensor and start the truck. Let us know what it does. NOTE: It won't rev up or anything, but it should start.

We're going to start at roughly page 74 of the manual and go from there: http://www.nicoclub.com/FSM/Pathfinder/ ... der/ec.pdf

There's no image. Plus I have the manual downloaded on my laptop. I was wondering if when the mechanic did the knock sensor last year do you think they could have done something to the intake manifold? Like miss a vacuum line or something. But the only problem is, is that it ran great after the knock sensor was replaced had no power though but like could he have missed something do you think?

Pic fixed.

Totally possible. Lack of power is a good indicator that something wasn't done right.

Might not have been a bad idea to go back (then) and complain.

Ok so I took apart the upper intake manifold and everything looked like it was all connected right. I left it all apart just in case you have something for me to try or look at. I can't take it back to the shop because the shop is more than 50 miles away and to run the suv I have to keep my foot on the gas and the brake at the same time. So let me know if you guys can think of anything else, please.
