I agree! Go to the dealer for the belts.A number of years ago my 88 Mazda 929 5 speed with 200k miles began making squealing noises. I stupidly took it to a local auto repair & they told me I needed a couple of timing belt tensioners. So they were replaced at least thats what they told me & charged me for along with the timing belt, hoses, other belts & water pump. Total $1300.00 Well within a week the car was barely running & took it back. It had jumped timing. A week later, same thing, took it back, & they had to reset the timing again. After the third time they refused to look at the car again. I then took it to the Mazda dealer where they gave me written documentation that incorrect tensioners as well as the wrong timing belt was on the car. Long story short, I disputed the original charge & got my original $1300 refunded on a charge back. I paid the dealer around the same price & my 929 ran like a clock again. What did I learn? Sometimes the dealer is cheaper and less aggrevating.
BTW, I was at the Infiniti dealer today and although I am not a believer in extended warrantys I took another 4yrs & 48k miles on mine for $1950.00Although belts and hoses are not covered on the original vehicle warranty, they are covered on the extended warranty. As are all bulbs, switches relays, etc. The covered list is long but I now have a bumper to bumper warrant until 2012 & 96k miles. The covered items runs 7 pages of tiny print & is called the "Elite Extended Protection Plan" by Infiniti. I will try to scan & post the covered items.
