Keep in mind, when you buy an extended warranty of 8 years, it includes the 4 years you get when you buy the car new. So your only actually getting a 4 year extended warranty. I would wait 3 1/2 years and if you still own the car, shop for an extended warranty then.
If your the original owner, after 4 years, and not had any ongoing problems, know how the car has been treated and serviced regularly, the odds are you shouldn't have enough problems to offset the price you paid for the extended warranty.
The places that sell the extended warranties usually come out ahead on the deal or they go broke.
The only car that I've owned, that I would consider buying an extended warranty for would be a BMW.
