A while back I bought some nice bulbs from an Auto parts store that worked for my other cars in the past, but when I put them in my pop ups they arent as bright, Although they are the same brand just the size for my 240. I think its because the pop ups are naturally pointed down. Is this true or is there a solution to my darkness at night? I am totally opposed to getting those preposterous halo conversions that delete the "pop ups" Any or all advice is much appreciated.

Are your headlights properly adjusted?
They shouldn't be pointing down too much.

Anyways, one day I plan to upgrade to these lights:

Well I used to have the same bulbs in a honda accord I used to run around in and it would light up the street so much when I would be coming down the highway my headlights would light up the exit signs and turn night into day. The same bulbs are in my 240 and I have these knock off lamps with little blue lights in the housing that arent connected, I figure they look pretty good and I am pretty sure my headlights are adjusted right. Ill check that in the morning though just to be sure

Your honda was probably lighting up street signs because your lack of a cutoff made you light up things you shouldn't be.
If you see the new BMWs and Infinitis with HID lights that have a proper cutoff, they have a real clean line like this:
Image

Are you running a cheap housing?
It's probably why you're not lighting up anything properly.
Buy some proper housings.

Honestly they are probably some cheap e bay housings.. My dad baught the headlight assembly for his convertible off craigslist and when he didnt need them anymore he just gave them to me. When we built my car I swapped the housings because I had the stock sealed ones and they were faded as S***

So if I went and got those Hella ones your talking about and my headlights are properly adjusted it should make the difference I'm looking for?

Yeah it should be better than cheap housings.

Here's a picture someone took to compare their headlights.
His old Sylvania housings:

His new Hella housings:

You might be able to find a Hella or Cibie, H4 replacement at Wal-mart or something since old trucks and SUVs also use rectangle headlights.

I agree the factory pop up lights suck a**. I am used to my s14 with HID lights in it though. I literally have trouble seeing with the factory s13 lights. The very first mod that I pay for will be a nice HID set up.

$200 each...yikes.

Rather go with a set of Cibie H4's with some Philips or Osram bulbs.

LEDs would probably outlast anything else though. I know I love the LED bulbs I have in my house.

I have Autopal H4 conversion with SilverStar Ultra bulbs on my vert and it is great. Search ebay for "autopal 7x6" or "autopal 6054".

BTW these are 1/2 to 1/3 the price of the similar CIBIE, Hella and Raybrig units, and I don't have any issues after 2 years with the Autopal housings. I'm not sure what the benefit of the higher priced units are.

I've seen things done like this before, and on many occasions. I have never found a write up on it. I think this summer I will go to the junk yard and experiment myself.

I've had Hella and they are junk compared to Cibie's.

The Hella's high beam is wayyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy to high.

Well I'm sad to announced that I've already purchased a pair from NAPA ($160 each) :ohno: , but I'm currently awaiting their arrival so as soon as I get them I will install and make a comparison between my current set up that I have (Sylvania Silverstar Ulta) ... I have to wait about 2 weeks or so. :squint:

Ok so the day has come to see if I wasted money on these Trucklite LED 5X7 headlamps :ohno:

First off you can tell it's a high quality product. Nice polycarbonate lens and aluminum back housing and I'm very pleased with it.

Here's a side by side comparison with my old and cracked headlight housing using H4 Sylvania Silverstar Ulta bulbs.
Image

Installation was straight forward, so here are the results:

I like the black look :naughty:
Image

I need to adjust it a bit higher but this is what it looks like in the night. It's a very comfortable light colour and MUCH brighter than my Sylvania Silverstar Ulta as you can see in this picture. And other thing, it's not annoying on coming traffic. ;)
Image

That's it for now. I love these lights :dblthumb:

:rotfl only if they were in here Guyana, South America. A friend of mine was in Miami and got them in a Napa store. He also bought a pair of the round 7" ones for his Landrover Defender, then went on a mountain trip here in my country. He also said it worked great.

Nice, reasonable way to get more light without the full conversion thing. I had wondered how satisfactory the output on the LEDs would be.

Sorry about not posting pics ...I've just been too busy with life. I have a few here even though not satisfactory, I'd thought I'll post them anyways. I can reiterate how happy I am with these LED headlamps.
Image

In the picture below I circled two extra light pattern that these headlamps gives off. I wish it didn't had them, however it don't bother me, as a matter of fact I used them to help align the headlamps..lol :chuckle:
This is the low beams.
Image

High beams are brutal, but you can't really tell in this pic. Notice the cut off where the dog is sitting, it's the same for the low beams, just the middle of the lights get taller. Btw these headlamps have a very wide coverage which l particularly love.
Image

Whenever I get an other chance I will take more pics :)

My friend bought these for his Toyota pick up. He raves about them. He paid $500 plus shipping off Amazon. If you know somebody that works at Napa or has a business account there you can get them for $360 for the pair. That's what I'm going to do.

Try using the old Sylvanias. They seem bright enough when you have them properly adjusted. Need more light?? Get the stock S13/Pathfinder/Hardbody Fog lights and remove the covers. That's what I did back in the day.
