You've all probably read about my drift event coming up soon. Anyways, I need to get a helmet. I've been searching the net, but they are all super expensive (probably because they are made for multiple impacts and are fire retardant).

Anyways, anybody know where I can get a full faced helmet affordably?

I was hoping to spend under $200 if possible.

Some of the motorcycle helmets are 2005's...

If you want one that has less "bike" styling, and more of a "car" look, the cheapest I have seen is about $289. IIRC.

Many of the driving event organizers don't allow M rated helmets and require a proper SA rated helmet. I'd make sure to check with the event organizers for the event. Though, if you are planning to drive in other events or would like to leave that open, might be better to get the SA rated helmet.

You might try looking up Bell helmets. When I bought mine, they were cheaper than many other brands, but are pretty good helmets. I had a Bell and it was quite comfortable too. Make sure you get the sizing right as well. A poor fit can make for a poor experience.

Gracias por todos.

Wow, I almost sound Mexican. Must be the trip to Ensenada this weekend.

I'm definately going for an SA, not M. The fire retardence and the fact that it can be used for virtually all applications (except for street in some cases) makes a huge difference to me.

Most events require you to comply with the NHRA rulebook.

Read the rulebook here

Cool. I've never been to any of those events as a competitor. I have only been drag racing, and most tracks (at least the two in WA) are really strict about "the rules". I'm not doubting you. The rules are different depending on which track you go to.

It varies from track to track. But my though is, helmets are required for a reason (regardless of what rating they require). Its a just in case measure to help reduce the chance of and/or severity of an injury or death. That said, one should consider that they should get a helmet that is right for the job. I'd prefer one that has been tested to withstand certain minimum standards that are in place for the type of use intended. So regardless of what the people in charge at your track require, perhaps one should consider their safetybeyond what the rules dictate is safe. In a relative sense, its a rather small investment compared to your head...

Don't buy the cheapest helmet you can find

HJC makes a good helmet
