Hello everyone! Just joined after viewing this site for some time. Here are my problems:I have a 91 Q45 with 208,000 mi sitting in my garage this past year with the fuel pump gone & the transmission gone. I'm going to have the fuel pump replaced here locally but as for the transmission im not sure what to do.Should i have it rebuilt or should i purchase a used one? I live in Apple Valley,Ca & there isnt alot of choices for me locally. Also i called the closest dealer i told him i wanted my timing chain replaced & he said they never have to be replaced. I've been reading the forums & from the feedback i got from some people about their chains breaking have me convinced that i should also have mine replaced. Also when i first bought the car almost 4yrs ago it had 163,000 mi & was only driven on the weekends. What maintenance should i also have done with this amount of miles on her? The little light around the keyhole in the door doesnt work along with my power drivers seat, inside dome light, cruise control & sometime sitting in traffic my temperature gage rises. My next door neighbor came over when i couldnt get it to start & quickly found out it was the fuel pump. I dont hear the hum when i turn my ignition key. He also asked me if my car runs hot sometime & i told yes a few times it did while i was sitting in traffic for about 10mins. He said its my fuses & i need to change them out. All of your help is greatly appreciated! Oh also not mechanical inclined. Thanks... :

I can answer some of it for you.

The transmission: Don't try to have anyone rebuild it. The best long-term solution is a remanufactured one from Joe at about $3500 installed. The next best is a used Japanese one either off ebay or from a JDM importer. They usually have less than 60K miles on them. They can be had for roughly $500 shipped, uninstalled.

The timing chain itself does not need to be replaced. It's the plastic-backed chain guides that have to be replaced - around $1000 in parts and labor.

The dead fuel pump could actually be a dead Fuel Pump Control Unit (FPCU). There's a way to ground the dead FPCU to see if the Fuel Pump still works.

In any case, the pump needs to be replaced - maybe both. The fuel pump has to be new and is roughly $350 or so, plus labor. A used FPCU can be had for $50 or so.

Overheating is unlikely to be fuses - more probably just your thermostat. Replace it only with a genuine OEM one and see if that fixes it.

To remedy the deferred maintenance, you should probably flush all fluids - oil, differential, brake, power steering, etc. Once you get it running, you'll want to get the intake path all cleaned up, especially with the current conversion to ethanol in gasoline. First, I'd ohm all the injectors to check them, and then have a BG dealer do their full intake cleaning service for about $150 or so.
