I need to know about how much a full RB26 swap into my 91 240 will cost installation and everything. Any help would be appreciated.

Allow $10k to do it right. Be confident in your ability to diagnose and repair issues yourself. Have specific goals in mind and don't half-*** it.

If you have to ask this question, you most likely don't know much about RB's. I'm not insulting you, just stating a fact. In that case, I don't recommend an RB swap. Especially not the 26!

Start with an SR!

Or, if you really want an RB... start with an RB20. It's a very capable engine and it's fairly cheap to do. It will make a great learning platform. Then later when you have some aptitude and ability, and $$$$, you can step up to Gawdzilla!!!

From what i've heard it would cost more than 10k, the motor and transmission would cost close to that alone, and from what I gather from his post he won't be doing the work himself so that would be like 3-5k in labor due to all the custom fabrication plus you have to assume some things will go wrong. Then theres the problem of having the engine maintained, you pretty much have to do it yourself and its not like you can run down to autozone and pick up parts for it. Not necessarly saying don't do it, but like Eikon said you might want to start with an RB20 just to get some experience with that series of engine.

You can pick up a motor for less than 4k if you shop. You will spend another $1k on an RB25 transmission. Then you spend more on... mounts, driveshaft, timing belt, water pump, oil pump upgrade, oil sump/pan, wiring harness, clutch, LSD, etc... ($3500 would be a fair guess for these a few other odds and ends)Count on maybe $1500 for install if you bring everything to them..

All in all... probably $10k is about right.

Parts are certainly hard to find, but there are some common with other USDM Nissans (300zx especially).

Anyhow.. hopefully you get that idea that you need to know what you are doing. If your a novice and want to fork over some cash and not worry about things for the future.... have a shop swap an SR for you. Not that they are perfect or anything, but much more common and much easier.

I second this notion wholeheartedly. I think that the RB20 is a great motor to at least start with and work your way up from. You never know... you might be satisfied with it and not swap again! Check out the RB forums and also race bread dot com. Jon Powell (who occasionally posts over here too) is a GREAT resource, along with Carl H, BIZERK, modestmouse and that whole crew. I've learned so much just lurking through that site and the RB section on NICO.

He is just gonna end up spending way more money by getting an rb20 "first". If he wants a 2.6, and can afford it, whats to stop him?

What's really gonna cost him money is when he gets partway through his project, then realizes he's in over his head. Then he can't complete the project and winds up selling it at a loss.

Instead... Spend less than $2k on an RB20. Run it for a while, get used to it. Learn from it. Then when you are ready... sell it for $1000+ and move up to the 26. The loss in buying, then selling the RB20 will be a very worthwhile investment.

Unless money is no object. But, if it were no object, he wouldn't be here asking how much it would cost. Right!!!???

I doubt he can afford it if he has to ask here... if you were really thinking about doing something that big... dont you think you would contact some shops actually do swaps? i'm not anti RB26 or anything but I think that unless you have already completed mods in other key areas you're not going to be able to use the extra power the engine puts out... which makes it kinda pointless no?

Do you have an LSD? Wide sticky tires? did you do anything to the suspension? what's the point in having an engine that can go that fast if the car gets unstable at high speeds because everything else is stock?

I can easily spin the wheels on my nearly stock KA I can only imagine how bad it would be if you put a RB into a stock 240....

Reminds me of my friend building a badass motor for his camaro and dropping it in a stock car. With no thought on trans, clutch, rear end, brakes, or fuel management, etc. Good luck.
