for those of you who did a swap and changed the exterior color afterwards: is your engine bay the stock color or did you spray paint it black? i need ideas. my car is currently beige. it's not very appealing to me. i would like to have the car completely worked over with a colorchange. what should i do with the engine bay and undercarriage before the SRSWAP goes in? any of you guys do complete restorations? what things should i be looking out for and what costs should i expect to get a very nice complete paint job??

You might as well paint your engine compartment. You are taking the engine out anyway. With paint jobs you pretty much get what you pay for. If you get a $500 mako. It's gunna look good for maybe a month then start chipping an bubbling (my friend got one on his 280zx). A really good one can cost upwards of 2 grand.

Can you do work yourself?

My advice would be to remove everything on the exterior and engine bay. Then go to Borders, Amazon, Lirbrary and Etc. Get some books on prepping and painting. Then sand it down and fill holes. If you have anything major that needs to be done take it to a body shop so they can do that one thing real good. After you have done all the prepping. You can do one of two things. Primer it yourself or take it to a shop to Primer then Paint.

I'd do the undercarriage with a good rust protecting rattle can and the engine bay the same color as the whole car.

while the motor is out, use some POR-15 on that biotch, its black and will stand up to most anything, it will also look pretty nice. only downside- its kinda pricey. http://www.porshop.com/
