Why not just replace the head gasket? That would be the cheapest solution.

With the engine being aluminum (I'm fairly certain it is, or at least the heads are for sure), just replacing that head gasket wouldn't be the smartest thing in the world to do (aluminum warps rather easily when overheated).

I tried this in my '91 300ZX Turbo when it overheated... Iron block, aluminum heads... heads were warped slightly, but in "spec" per the service manual... still redeveloped a leak after replacing the gaskets... =( To replace the gaskets you really need to have the heads milled and decked... and then runner a thicker head gasket... no fun all the way around.

Why not just drop a VQ35 in it if you're looking to just replace the engine?? Probably run you about the same price as the VQ30 is you do enough searching...

Depending on where you are, there should be a place that can straighten the heads... A Q guy did this when his Q overheated. he took his heads into the shop and they put them on this machine that somehow straightened them, without having to grind of very much, if any metal off the mating surface of the head...

Stil a VQ35 swap might not be a bad idea!
