The next time you guys fill up your ride.

Please let me know how many miles/km's you got by the time you have used up exactly 1/4 tank.

Especially, if it was all city driving.

Thanks!

Sedans and coupe or just coupe?

Itr will be lower now for most people in the colder climate. You know winter gas and warm up the car.

I think I got 100 miles by the time I was at the 3/4 mark.

My gauge is on crack though. Last night it was one tick above the 1/4 tank mark with 240 miles. I drive 7 miles and it's at the 1/4 tank mark.

This morning I drive 6-7 miles and it dips down to 1/8 tank and the low fuel light is on. When I get off the freeway, the light is off and the needle is back to 1/4 tank.

Do you specificly want 1/4 tank? I always fill up at half but the gauge. And I ususally put in 11 gals. I will be filling up in the morning.

OOOOH wait. I think I am almost at 1/4 right now. I will have to check when I leave work. But if I am close I will wait till 1/4 to fill up. Never mind. You wanted mostly city. I did about 150 hwy. Sorry.

But I can still do the 1/2 tank thing if you want.

Sorry for the ADD Crack Money reply.

Let me guess. You're getting 250 miles per tank and want to compare

Most likely not even. If he drives the same way I drive and the crapy gas plus the warming up the cars.

Oh well small pricey to pay for such an exitement.

I am getting about 450km -500km on a tank if I am extremely carefull. But usually around 400km. With the 07 I've got 350km/tank. My wife can get 600km/tank.

The first 1/4 goes down slower Maybe because the needle goes further then full.

So if I am careful I get arund 150km with 1/4 tank. If not, well 100 ish.

I have gotten 650km on the tank, MAX!!!! I always fill when the light comes on

My altima averaged 35mpg in mixed city / hwy "spirited" driving Been driving the alty lately, too cold for my G

Sounds like a serious issues. That's like 11-13 mpg. Even when I'm going super stupid city driving, I get 16 (64). Normal city driving is about 17-17.5. Driving like you, I got 19 mpg.

Yeah..I'm super confused. It was damn hard driving like "normal" people do. I was really surprised that's all I got.

Hmmm...shouldn't be. But maybe I should reset the ECU just to begin the process of elimination.

I am now officially disturbed by this...

I would start with the resets.

If the results are still poor, then I would take it to a dyno and see what your AFRs are. The dealership can probably do this too.

You might have been dispensed a bad batch of petrol (for you frenchies that's gasoline )

I have forseen this coming for a while... I have a theory that the quality of fuel we receive in the commercial marketplace is directly linked to the price of crude oil... think about it... all these fuel companies have been making money hand over fist for the last year and now that oil is trading below half of what it was a month ago, they are going to make up for it anyway they can. I think there is going to be an influx of "watered down" gasoline in the market... fuel companies are proven to take unscrupulous measures to increase profits...

I would log your fuel performance and you might want to try to use a cleaning agent/octane booster. I would also clean the MAF/ Air filters and the throttle bodies.

Just a thought....

Keep us posted....Dave

Around 80 miles for the first 1/4 tank per the gauge sounds right to me for city driving. If I go all freeway, I usually see 125 miles by the first 1/4. So yeah Sean, you got something going on. Could be bad fuel. We had a bad batch here a few weeks ago, luckily I didn't get any of it but some friends of mine said their mileage dropped significantly after filling up at the same station. That's probably your best bet.

As crude prices have fallen, I personally haven't seen any bad gas in my G. Knock on wood, but I don't really believe they mess with it because of the prices.

My 04 G35C with automagic gets 19/20 mpg around town on 93. No major stop & go.

Will have to check the 1/4 tank deal, but not as accurate as checking mileage at fill up.

Like I said...this is ALL city/burbs driving.

Hmm...never crossed my mind about the "watered" down gas!! Or I mean Petro Dave LMAO

Yup...prolly wouldn't hurt to clean the MAF as well. Although I have REALLY low mileage. Stealership will be my last resort.

Thanks boys...I'll keep ya posted.

normally its about 80 miles by the time i have used the top 1/4. By the time I get to the bottom 1/4 (i've used 3/4) I have about 230 miles. If I do a lot of highway it will go up, if its all highway then i normally am around 300 by the time i get to the bottom 1/4.

Hey Whizz...how many miles do you have? Have you changed your spark plugs already? Maybe you need to change an ignition coil?

Highway

My daily commute is 100 mi per day all highway. If I use my G over a weekend & then calculate MPG I will usually see a drop of 2-3 MPG vs a 3 day calulation of a 300 mile commute which usually calculates in a 25MPG result

I have a record of my MPG on every fillup since I purchased my G on 12/31/05

My MPG has improved since I went over 50k miles.

My fillups and MPG for November 08 are24.60, 25.5125.41

My fillups and MPG for November 07 with 42k miles are21.3323.5521.6622.0222.10

My fillups and MPG for November 06 with 14k miles are

23.5821.1522.9022.6820.63

My best MPG was on a couple of tank fillups between between Va & SC 26.58 MPG and SC & Florida 28.83 in June 07 with 27k miles on my G

My MPG tends to drop a couple of MPGs in cold weather. The only consistant way to monitor the MPG on your G is to fillup and record the mileage. On the next fillup divide the gallons it took into the miles traveled and record the results. You cannot obtain accurate readings on a readout on a screen on the dash.If I were do do any mods, I would compare MPG results after the mods with MPG results prior to the mods. I suspect that some of those getting the worst MPG who performed mods may have hurt their MPG but without accurate MPG data before & after it is difficult to prove?

The 6sp manuals also obtain a few more MPGs than the automatics and AWD.

What is amazing to me is my 06 G gets approximately the same 25 MPG as my 69 VW 50HP beedle 4 sp manual whose weight was less than 2k lbs and had no A/C or emission controls.

I also believe that using 87 octane improves mileage with perhaps a slight loss in hp? Can't be sure because I've never used premium?

Telco your MPG has gone up because the Ethanol in the gas brings your 87 oct rating up to about 91

So your car is actually running the PROPER fuel..

I highly doubt that you would increase mileage after 50k miles... That happens only after about 20k miles!

Since i put the pop charger on and the Y pipe... I am getting about 2mpg better on the highway and about -1 mpg in the city... ONLY because I shift at like 5k rpms because it sounds so good. I will be good next time and see what I get in the city on the 1/4 tank

I recorded the mpg on a trip to miami last weekend, 29.21 and that was a dead 80mph all the way with out ever putting on my brakes! I drove at night Then I decided to fill up in Miami and drive back to tampa and do the trip in 3hours and 10 mins

I recently did some reading that completely contradicts this concept. I too always thought that higher octane would result in higher MPG, but there is a balance that SEEMS to need to be maintained.

The article I read, said to use the lowest octane your car would take without knocking or severely retarding timing. The explanation was that lower octane gas usually has higher BTU than the modified higher octane gas with tuelene among other octane boosters.

Again, I can't confirm those findings, but there might be some truth to it. Also, most of us saw a drop in fuel economy with the addition of ethanol. I see where you're coming from with Telco, saying that his octane is now closer to the recommended octane, but I think there's more to it than meets the eye.

Also, as engine begin to completely wear in, then fuel economy usually goes up.

Sean just has too much pent up frustration with the little one coming that he can't keep his foot off the gas

Thanks for all the replies boys!!

Nope, I have VERY low mileage on my G. Only 18000km's!! No way could it be the plugs.

I am now at 1/2 tank and have 212km's. Again, all city driving. So that's 124km's from the 3/4 mark to the 1/2 mark.

124 km sounds much better for a 1/4 tank. It could be your gauge. But if there is something actually wrong, I still think it would be the gas. Something like that doesn't happen over night otherwise, its something that would get progressively worse if it was something else.

Other factors could be a lot of night time driving, defroster use now that its cold, moisture in the fuel system from being cold.
