Hey everybody, I'm a noob here and was curious if anyone has a working Sony 10-disc kicking around that they'd like to sell. I believe the model number is CDX-5N65W. I went through the diagnostic procedures in Alldata and the TSB and have concluded that the changer has croaked. If nobody knows where to get a new/used one, does anyone know how to go about getting my current one refurbished??? The radio is killing me...

Thanks! :bigthumb:

Thanks Paul, that is the same flowchart I followed. I need a replacement changer. :( Do you know whether Sony is still servicing these changers? That bulletin was from 1993...

-Edit-

I called the 800 number and got a recording with another number for a chat line. WTF Sony?

The first Technical Service Bulletin lists at the bottom a phone number you can call. As far as I know Sony stopped fixing them as they broke a little while after the warranty was up, They dealt with pissed off customers. You can try fixing it yourself as Heaths (Q451990) modo is "If its already f*** up, then try to fix it as it can only get better or go to the trash" Loosely remembered.

Infiniti Of Scottsdale sold Clarion 6 disk CD changers for less than $300 When I called a year or two ago.

Are those a direct-replacement for the Sonys? It was my understanding through the research I did that the Clarions were only compatible with '95 and up systems...

For 1994-1996 Q45's its as simple as plug and play. But I know some people hate 6 CD's VS the 10 CD Sony, You can get a 1997-2001 Q45 radio and have a total of 7 CD's!

Well, if the 1997-2001 deck is a direct replacement, I'd like to go that route. Then I can just grab one locally! What about rear speaker & amp unit compatibility? My left-rear voice coil is bad...

I'm pretty sure it's the speaker. It has a static sound that is consistent at all volume levels, so at low volume the noise is heard over the music, but at high volume the music masks the noise. (to a degree) In my experience when an amp blows it either won't turn on, or it will F with the sound no matter what you do... :gotme

Let me look in the basement and see it I still have mine. I am pretty sure I do. I will send you an email if I do have it and we can discuss the cost to get it to you......not much if I have it.

I made an impulse buy last night on ebay and got the Clarion out of a 2000 Q45. Does anyone have spare disc cartridges I could buy from ya?

I'm certainly interested, I'd love to have a spare. I'd prefer the Sony 10-disc. Plus, I have 3 disc cartridges laying here...

I looked for it and did not find it, but I do have the ten disc cart.....that leads me to think I still have the Unit.....I will continue to look......give me a couple of more days. In the meantime know that I at least have you covered on the ten disc cart.

Well, I finally got off my lazy butt and fiddled with the changer. I found that a disc was stuck in it! I disassembled it, removed the disc, fiddled with a few things, and viola! It works great!!! :woot: Now I just need to see if it survives real driving... :ohno:

You might try putting some bushings (Grommets?) between the mounts and metal to possibly give the CD changer a little more of a fighting chance. I wanted to do this last year for mine but I kept forgetting to do it.

I took apart two failed CD changers and it always seemed the the gear to bring the CD into the disk reader always came off. But thats only two of the hundreds of Sony CD changers.

Did the 2000 Q Clarion CV737 work on your 94 Q replacing the Sony as a plug and play? I'm about ready to replace my Sony on my 94 Q. If you still have your Clarion and are not using it, do you want to sell it?

The Clarion CV737 is a direct plug and play replacement. I have one in my 95Q playing off the original head unit. Only six discs but still a working plug and play changer.

I have a Clarion CV737 6-disc changer that is plug and play if you are interested. I bought it back in 2002 brand new for my '95 Q45. Rarely used it. I loved the look of the factory head unit and used the tape deck for my ipod which looks tacky. 2 months ago I bought and installed a Clarion NX700 Navigation head unit so I no longer have any use for it. I used it shortly before I took it out and it worked fine. Let me know if you are interested. Still in "like new" condition.

I went to Pick N Pull to pull some parts off a 94 Q45t, the trunk was closed and the key hole drilled out. I pried the trunk open and found a perfectly working stock Sony 10 disc cd changer with the carpet trim and an extra cartridge. Cost me $20. Pretty lucky because they go through each car they buy and remove cd players, subs, etc.

I have one. I'm not sure that it works though. You can have it for whatever it costs to ship it. I was about to throw it away.

PM me your address and I'll get a shipping quote.
