your best bet is to find a local wrecker that might have what you seek.
there are so many Frontiers out there there is always a few lying around that are just dying to donate their motor. I believe any 5 speed VG33 from a Pathfinder, Xterra or Frontier should work.

The one in my '98 is from a wrecking yard. It's a 2000 engine that had 21k miles on it.
The 4 bangers from any 98-04 should bolt and plug right in.
If the donor had an auto, you'll need to swap over your flywheel, and 4wd vs 2wd used different oil pans and pickups, but they interchange just fine.
