So I have a few ideas in mind.. But I cant seem to come to any sort of conclusion. And Vickis thread about people buying things they wont ever need made me even more confused.

So my requirements are that it can seat 4 people, and has AWD or 4x4. I've been looking into 02 & up Frontiers and Xterras.. But i have never owned a truck.. and I will probably never ever need the bed or extra cargo space. I dont Dirtbike, Mountain bike, Kayak, 4-wheel, Hunt.. Tho I might be into offroading if i had a sweet truck. Does anyone have any Plus or Minus info on these two?

I've also been considering a WRX.. Fun sporty, and i hear unstopable in bad weather.. but do i need two sporty cars?

Ideas? Suggestions?

what's wrong with two sporty cars? If you don't want a WRX, just get a awd Legacy. Or a Impreza 'L' sedan or something. Great in the snow and they're fun to drive.

I myself have been looking into trading in my cougar for a wrx. Although, I am an avid bow hunter and it sucks not having a truck and needing to borrow my dads anytime i get a deer. The wrx would be nice for the iowa snow though.

If you can afford a WRX, hell...go for it. If not, I've seen Impreza 2.5RS go for around 10-12K. AWD, they look cool and they're supposed to be pretty fun to drive.

Winter? PFFT! GET A SUBARU!

I've been dying to get this thing in the mud and snow.

The rain this week helped satisfy my craving...

If you have the money, go with a WRX.

I didn't have the money so I bought a 1996 Jeep Cherokee Sport 4dr with 4wd for the winter. Very nice and reliable winter beater/daily driver for under 4k.

I'll second that! I have a '00 Jeep Cherokee Sport 4X4 that I drive year around. Its a reliable bargain, more refined than earlier Cherokee's, it has pretty good fuel efficiency for an SUV, a more comfortable interior, it's really easy to work on should anything go wrong and also new parts are dirt cheap. There are lots of Cherokee's available at low prices with good miles.

Well, as someone who just sold his WRX, I can say that they're awesome cars. Transmissions suck, but awesome cars nonetheless. They ARE unstoppable in the snow.

Honestly, if you want a fast Subaru AWD, I'd say go with an earlier 2.5RS and do a swap or a bolt-on turbo. The older cars are much more tossable than the GD-chassis WRX/STI.

Other REALLY cool options (if you can find them):

-Celica All-Trac/GT4 (ST165 or ST185)-Mitsubishi Galant VR-4

You could also go the Evo route, if you're looking to spend that kind of money. MR is coming out soon....heh heh heh.

Yeah, they're FAR easier to toss and control than GD's

Mine is too, but it pains me to subject it to road salt and snow. Personally, I plan to buy a cheap AWD or FWD car for a daily driver and then boost the hell out of my KA.

I don't mind driving a 150hp RWD car in the snow...I'd be less excited about driving a 250hp RWD car in those same conditions.

I don't think there's any shortage of GC8s (or I guess GM6 for the US Version) around me (DC Area).

Don't discount the 4-door 2.5RS either, that's how the vast majority of the older WRXs were sold in Japan. They're such cool cars.

Yup 2.5 RS or a WRX. Both stylish cool cars, both killer in the snow.

Last winter was the worst winter here in 11 or 12 years. Snow was at least two feet deep for nearly the entirety of the winter. I had a 2wd Ford Ranger. Even being the peice of crap it was, it got me through the winter. There were a couple times we had to tow it out with the Ram but other than that, it wasn't that bad having a rear wheel drive truck (the *** end of which could have been lifted by two or three people, easy--very little DRY traction, almost none wet). It was actually pretty fun. SLiding around corners effortlessly, always fishtailing away from lights...it was more fun that it was a problem.

Man I love living in sunny Florida...If I were ever to need a winter car I'd get a jeep...those cars are almost rock solid. Imprezas are nice too.
