I know this is the KA sight, and that engine is an option, i have access to two of them, but I am a purist with 2 or 3 L18s in my shop , four6 L20B's and two reworked heads and a couple of z20's and z22 also. I need 200 hp for my 4x4 truck, 79 bulletside on a 80 4x4 frame w/ 5speed to pull my tow dolly and 5th wheel over the Rockies and Sieras. I am ready to build an engine, I just dont know which one to build. I repeat I need 200 hp! I have researched a hybrid LZ engine with L heads and z20 or 22 block, and L18 heads, the L crank. but also have been told to use L20 block with z22 crank to make a L22 engine, and I have been told that I need to use z22 block with ka pistons but dont know what head to use, Naps z heads are out of the question with every source I check, so have eliminated using them. I need some serious help ASAP, need to get truck up and running for a trip to either Oregon or washington to get parts for my next projects. thanks

The KAe head is a direct fit to the z22e block, and you can use all of the napsz timing assembly (including the timing chain and sprockets).Devious KA can sell you a reground cam for streetable performance specs.Use the KAe or a KAde ecu. With the KAde ecu you will have to modify a knock sensor. Clover leaf weld the KAe head raise your compression atleast to 10.5:1 or higher. Use all the KAE MPI equipment, with wiring harness. Get a high flow CAT, and performance headers thorley makes one for the z series that will bolt right to the KAE head. Port and hone the KAE head and mani (intake side only, polish the exhaust side. Electric fan, and a thermal switch you should be good to go.15BTDC on KAE ecu20BTDC on the KAde ecu

EDIT: failed to mention the use of the KAE distributor.

Considering that you want this in your truck, for pulling and general use, go with a 2.4l.

You can use one of your z20 or z22 heads with some z24 valves, on a z24 block. This would simplify fueling as you can use all of your current parts.

Or, just a bit more savvy, a ka24 swap. This would require wiring your truck for efi and installing a high pressure fuel system, or custom manifold with carb.

I would get right to the point and nuture the torque factor. Longest stroke and bore, with high intake/exhaust velocity in appropriate rpm ranges will do it.

Hey Devious are you shure the additional deck heigth of the z24/KA24e/de blocks would fit in a little 620pickup? Those are some pretty small trucks, I believe there smaller than the 720pickup.

Edit: Never mind just looked at a few 620's with the KAde in it.......
