Hey guys I was reading the WRX STI forums because we have a Subaru and started reading several things on what awesome results they’ve gotten with Shell Rotella T6-
Of course, I gave it a try last weekend.. unfortunately I went to another forum I belong to bobistheoilguy..
According to what I can find Shell Rotella of any formulation is not for use with vehicles that have a catalytic converter. CRAP.. supposedly the Q’s front ceramic cats are sensitive and can fail and eventually make the ceramic particles get into the engine. SOoooo, that means the Rotella I put in could be a very bad thing. I also have seen that Shell has reforulated the Rotella T6 And is sage for cats... anyone here know the truth? Should I drain immediately? Or; is the T6 formula with triple protect safe for our cars?

I'd drain it. It's designed as a diesel oil, so I'd say it's not an ideal oil for your car. Also it's a 40 weight, so I'd go with a thinner oil. Mobil 1 0W-30 is my preferred fill.

Spend the time over at BITOG reading "oil 101" - then read the forums and enjoy the feeling of your head wanting to explode as everyone voices their opinion on oil. In the car world the most controversial topics have to be "what's the best oil?" and anything about lane discipline.

Laughing...... so very true.. that’s the exact reason I guess I didn’t read very far.. you think I should drain it? The Rotella oil T6 states it’s for diesel and gasoline engines on the bottle. I went to the Shell web site and loaded up on info for the T6 formulation- they swear it’s safe and low ash, low phosphorus... and safe for all emission devices.. I went to the 40 weight because Infinit allows for 10/40 on the VK.
I bought the Rotella for its higher temp durability and its very good record for not shearing- it’s ideal for extreme temps and environments.. the FX45 guys and as I said Subaru people swear by it. The FX45 guys have said it has pretty much stopped oil consumption on their VK45’s. I believe several systems are oil pressure reliant; and I was tired of having to add oil.. my Q blows a big puff of blue smoke every start after sitting for 10 hours or more.. I think it’s seeping in on top of the pistons via PCV system which is majorly flawed on this motor..

If Shell's site says it's ok for gas, then it's probably fine. When I looked I thought I saw it say it was for diesel, and that's why I recommended against it. It sounds like you've researched it pretty well.
