Hey guys, I might be able to buy my first 240SX! Here is my situation:Last night I was searching through AutoTrader and here is what I found

1989 NISSAN 240SX FASTBACK-2dr, 5spd, PS, tilt, sunroof, AM FM cassette CD player, clean, runs xlnt, 30MPG, always garaged, red, 150k mi, $1300 obo

and

1989 NISSAN 240SX FASTBACK-4cyl, 5spd, AC, AM FM stereo, orig owners, new brakes & battery, bike rack, fun to drive, make $1200 obo

The closest car is 3 miles away from my area code while the farthest is 14 miles. The thing is, I only have about $1,200 at most on me right now. What should I do? I don't have enough to pay for insurance and registration (Cali is one weird state for car registration now, can you say Governator?). Do these look like steals to you? If I do decide to look at these and buy one, I'll be able to negotiate the price down to $1,000 or maybe $900. I plan on getting a job in JAN, should I wait and make money for registration and insurance and then look for a 240? It is just that it is 5 spd (Kind of rare to find one on AutoTrader in SD, and it is a hatchback (I want to make a Sileighty!!!)Is there anything specific I need to look for when buying one? I know about the timing chain, regualr tune ups, interior, exterior.Tell me what you think, thanks.

I would buy both if they don't have body damages. you should bring $1k cash and show buyer money.

indeed, handful of cash always a good thing, tell them you got 900 in your pocket and hope they don't just wanna mug you, that's why I suggest trying the one with the bikerack first, seems the least threatening:D

ok, chances are no one is gonna mug you, but the bike rack could mean anal retentive owner, cuz really, why not just throw the bike in the back? well assuming it's not a big mountainbike anyway...

Thanks for your replies guys. From the pictures the body seems to be in good condition, but I'll check up on them starting tomorrow (try and buy a car on Christmas and ruin some families holiday fun, no way). I'll just bring $1,000 but offer $900 and inspect the car over with my friend. I'll check on the bike rack 240 first also. Hmm, if I do get that one, the first mod is to get rid of the bike rack lol. Thanks again.

check for rot in the rocker panels and behind the lisence plates. garaged sounds pretty sweet right now.
