I'm thinking of sticking with a KA SOHC - Talk me out of it!

I have an 89 Nissan 240sx s13 that is in great condition, but with a engine thats going. I love how cheap parts are for my baby, including engine swaps. So whether its an SR or an RB, should I go with more power? Why should I go with more power? Wouldn't it be wise to get a rebuilt SOHC and focus on performance in areas like suspension and weight reduction. Doesn't the SOHC produce enough power for the cars size? I know these questions could be answered with "well it depends on your taste, needs, application, etc." but what I'm looking for is a show of hands. What would you do? and why? Can you talk me into it?

Boost it. http://carphotos.cardomain.com/ride_ima ... _large.jpg

Do this and you'll be happy. Not to mention you will have spent less than a complete sr swap, yet have more power.

Well IMO SOHC are underpowered for the car's size. I wouldn't get an RB of any sort because sourcing parts is difficult since its not USDM. If you want a ridiculous amount of power you could shove a 2jz in the mofo. You also have the option of slappin a turbo on your engine.. But unless you want to take the time to tune every aspect of it so it doesn't blow up in your face then don't get one. The SR is a really popular choice because part sourcing isn't very hard since everyone has one. But whatever you do i say take the SOHC out because it's old and sucks lolz. But do make sure you upgrade your handling first so you can get the power on the road without flying into a ditch. HAPPY BUILDING :bigthumb:

^ What he said, I forget who but a regular here on Nico is doing a sick SOHC turbo build, wish I remembered his username. I say stick with the SOHC and turbo that s***, you will definitely enjoy it.

So that's two votes for turbocharging the SOHC. I have a good idea how to do that, but I have two questions. How long will the engine last under moderate boost? and more to the point, why would I want to turbocharge it?

KA engines are BULLETPROOF. They can handle lots of abuse.

If tuned properly, most will say they are tougher than an SR, and definitely an RB.

You want to turbocharge it because it'll be fun. :)
How long the engine will last depends on how well your engine has been taken care of.
If the engine is in good condition and your tune is good, it should last a long time.

Haha KA's aren't bulletproof, but they are quite stout. As long as you get a reputable tune and take your time, boosted single slammers are a lot of fun.

It can be done for far less than a grand; to do a comparable engine swap you'd be in the $1500 to $2000 range. Read up on it all in the KA-T section, there's a lot of good information there.

Yea, but its not USDM TyTe y0. Boost your SOHC, or trade some cardboard boxes for a DOHC ka and boost it!

single cam r fun, lots of torque, but i think duel cam are a little cheaper or that parts are easier to find. go with a duel cam.

i have a single cam good stuff need a tune other than that it perfect for what i wanted.

Who is the guy who did this turbo install? Would love to read about it. I will be polishing my stuff now :-) Plus love the msd blaster 2 coil...
